I used a lot of these! The octal connectors allowed xover modules for frequency dividing and shelving for multi way speaker driving. Along with DDT technology these amplifiers were near on indestructible. Good sounding and easy to maintain. I literally had hundreds of CS 800’s and cs1200 amplifiers in installations all, over the UK.
I used to service projection and sound in movie theaters most of my working life. There were a lot of CS-1200's in service among the locations. In the late 90's many started to fail, and after repairing a few, we determined they were simply not worth repairing. The build quality is vastly inferior to the QSC's that replaced them, and the QSC's never failed. Not a one. By the time I retired in 2020, all the Peaveys had been replaced and all the associated problems were gone.
Hallo my friend, I learn alot from this. and thanks for the step by step . im trying to revieve a CS1000X candt find anything on it... :( but GREAT video and well done. and i know some, but you realle made it clear for most things !! i thank you !!
Our band put on a live show once in our small town. We hired a bigger named band to play as a head liner. In their rider they specifically demanded that absolutely no Peavey gear to be used in the sound reinforcement system. I thought that was funny lol
I own a Peavey cs 1200 exactly like the one you repaired, I love this amplifier, and it acts like it is in mono bridge mode while in stereo mode. I checked the mono stereo switch it is good it still powers on but only the left channel. I swapped the transistor board on top with the one on the bottom, and it still operated in exactly the same manner, letting me know both boards are good, and Everything else looks good to me, any advise would be greatly appreciated, thankyou so much Eric Mootz.
hello back here again i have another cs1200 my problem is quite similar to your repair ..will work on getting it up and running today thanks for your video its a good starting point
That statement at the beginning is funny as I currently have 2@ CS 1000X's bridged running a 15" sub each and a CS 800X running the mids and highs in my room as I love the quality and feel of my music, plus I use it as a guitar amp. as well as I have a 24 Channel Mixer, Behringer X-Over to separate the lows from the Mid/Highs
The CS1200 is a heavy beast. My channel gain knob broke off at about 90% and I eventually sold it along with some Cerwin Vega horns with 15" woofer PA speakers. It was a loud system.
It's amazing to watch someone trouble shoot and repair an item at the component level. That's totaly old school. Nowadays the techs just replace the entire board. Nicely done.
I have one I need to look at. These go through a self check on startup. If it self checks ok a relay for each channel can audibly be heard activating. I'm only hearing one on mine, hence only half is working. Where are those relays located in these units?
