I quit my attempt at an 800-mile section of the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route… I ended up accomplishing 400 miles from Steamboat Springs to Del Norte, Colorado! In this video, I explain how it all went down and talk about what’s next.

In mountaineering, and other outdoor adventures, deciding to turn back is an essential skill. You made a sound judgment for your health, safety, and future activities. Well done.

Taking care of your health is NOT quitting! You rock! Looking forward to your next adventure!

What inspires me is not whether you finished or quit, but how you handle the adversity…you thought this through the whole way. You are a badass woman and if you don’t take care of yourself, you won’t be able to do any adventures. Virtual hugs to you! 🥰🚲🥾🥾⛺️🌸🌻

It takes a strong person to call it , stop , and heal ❤

Some of the greatest pressure we experience is the pressure we put on ourselves.

I’m really impressed with the 400+ miles you DID do! Who cares about the ones you didn’t, that alone is impressive!

knowing if and/or when to quit = wisdom

Those nerve injuries can take a very long time to heal and the worse it gets the longer it takes. They're no joke and you definitely made the right call.

Smart decision Liz, you dont want to jeopardize future endeavors.

Honestly, watching you go through this entire process of making adjustments and more adjustments to make it work until it didn’t anymore was probably more inspiring than if you had completed the ride without any issues or completing the ride and then being hurt because of it. It’s been really cool to see you roll with everything this year’s thrown at you. You’re exactly on the journey you’re supposed to be on. Film that journey and don’t worry about us!

You still did an amazing trip. It has been fun to watch your trip.

You didn't fail, you didn't quit, you were forced off the trail by injuries.
Big difference, and you still inspire me, Liz!

FWIW Ulnar nerve compression (Cyclist's Palsy) occurs when you grip handlebars for too long.
When you tilted your seat more nose down, that probably put MORE pressure on your hands, which compressed your ulnar nerve even more.
Typically, nerves are SLOW to heal, but in a young healthy person as yourself, you should be back to normal in a couple months.
It's why a lot of long distance cyclists add aerobars, not only for aerodynamics, but to give your hands a break every half hour or so.
I found aerobars also help take some of the pressure off my "sit-bones", by the way the bars make you lean forward, so that might be helpful for you to add in the future.

Proud of you ❤ I got a little over 700 miles on the PCT. Going home was not an option. I had no choice both legs gave up for the second time. Heart broke I looked for positive. I found it in the sierras at kennedy meadows. Didn't leave until second week in july. All the things I experienced and got to see was life changing. I didnt come home in defeat, I came home with new adventures to look forward to. I have followed you since you first adventure. Again ,proud of you young lady ❤

You. Always. Inspired. Me.

You absolutely made the right decision. Risking permanent nerve damage would have been foolish. And I think you are a hiker, not a biker. As you get older, you will face more of these kind of decisions. Always be kind to your body.
