Sunset Overdrive Deserves a Sequel

Sunset Overdrive is a franchise created by Insomniac Games that has been long forgotten and abandoned, left without a sequel. However, it has always had a special place in my heart for its explosively vibrant style, fantastic gameplay, and uniquely sarcastic tone. It was a breath of fresh air in the industry that has been treated unfairly.

My goal with this video was to shine a light on this hidden gem of a game and discuss the implications of why Sunset Overdrive 2 hasn't seen the light of day (yet).

My one and only complaint of sunset overdrive is that there simply isn't enough of it. I am always left wanting more every time I play it.

It makes me very happy to see a Sunset Overdrive video in 2024

This is a game i wish wasn't exclusive to Xbox and PC i get that Microsoft allowed insomniac creative freedom if they signed exclusively for Xbox but man this game is everything great about insomniac in a single game. Witty, fun, colorful. And it's clear as day it served as a blue print for Spider-Man wich i will forever be grateful for.

The new Suicide Squad is like a 0.75 version.

9:00 Imagine the voice actor trying to memorize this line

5:23 Insomniac also did this in R&C Tools Of Destruction with the slime gun where you can only use it when the game tells you to

I just joined this game fandom (I need to finish the game soon) but man I want a sequel so bad because there is so many more classes, enemies, and weapons you can setup in this game

Sunset Overdrive is what Saints Row 4 tried to be and failed to meet it's expectations, i dunno.

I hated the defense part of the game where you have to defend the overcharge barrels and stuff at my first time, but I gave the game another try this year and it feels so freaking great. Love it. Also, that fire shotgun from the start of the game is downright one of the best shotguns in all gaming.

The fact that this game is now 10 years old blows my mind I got this game day one and beat it at 10 years old and still to this day my favorite game I’ve ever played

I saw this way back as a dumb kid who owned neither of the 8th gen consoles, and its the only game from 8th gen I go back to just to have fun watching the trailers and gameplay. Like, just seeing the gameplay in this video alone is just fun to watch, and the urban summers' day environments contrasting all the booms and explosive sparkles go a long way in that fun (as well as the beautiful flowing movement system, obviously).
This game honestly needs more attention. Even with it being stupidly underrated, it just looks so darn lively!

This hit my algorithm as of 2026, played it on release, and recently with the DLCs, it absolutely deserves a sequel. 🙌 only 3 things i would add for a sequel are more bosses, so much more story and side quests, and a variety of traversal options like skateboards and bmx bikes 🔥
