In 1930, an expedition from Miskatonic University ventured into the uncharted wastes of Antarctica. What began as a groundbreaking geological survey led by Professor William Dyer quickly devolved into a nightmare of massacred camps, impossible ancient cities, and the horrifying realization that humanity is not the first master of this earth. Join DK and Kirioth as they descend into the frigid depths of H.P. Lovecraft’s At The Mountains of Madness.

y'all were kinda cooking with detectable losses "we've had a look, yup they're gone"

Now we know why the penguin is going straight toward the mountains. There can be no bravery without madness.

Lovecraft - You know what?

sci-fis his fantasy setting

What always confuses me is the incredible empathy that Lovecraft shows for the Elder Things, an empathy that he can’t show for his fellow man he lavishes on alien god-scientists from beyond the stars.

There was a moment in the book where it was shown on the murals that the Elder Things created early humans as "A buffoon to entertain them"

Still waiting for the armored core episode. Will keep commenting it until it happens

I find it really interesting that seemingly none of the aliens in Lovecraft's works had spaceships of any sort for traversal, but instead just rawdogged and flew with fucking wings through the void. A fun reflection of the time, I suppose.

The true cosmic scale of this story is so well encapsulated in the brief mention that all native life on Earth is an unintended byproduct of Elder Thing biotech. Some leftover cells that started evolving on their own, basically the equivalent of pollution they decided to ignore as long as it didn't bother them, and exterminated if it ever got out of hand. They even knew about the ancestors of humans, but just thought they were funny and/or tasty.

At this point, I think someone needs to jumpscare this podcast with Animorphs and Deltora Quest.

I always felt sad for the things they unearthed. Like they survived being frozen for millenia after their species extinction and woke up cold and alone, and were screaming "help me" as they were eaten by the shogoths they hoped to escape, but the people left them to die because they couldn't understand them because they were just primitive creatures unable to understand.

I unironically want Acceptable Losses to cover The Land of Ooo in Adventure Time. There is so much dark bleak horrible stuff on the peripheral of that wacky whimsical cartoon for children & stoners.

Now I hope we see a Darkest Dungeon episode

Ah my favourite Lovecraft story.

@jamespocelinko104 3 weeks ago

Shoggoths are honestly my favorite Lovecraftian monster. Not only are they intelligent, shapeshifting blobs but they were SOMEONE ELSE's creation gone renegade.

Is it just me or did the whole 4 crew members and a cabin boy cannibalism thing not click at all with DK 😂

The single most clear piece of evidence against Earth being flat is that if it was, cats would have long pushed everything else off the edge.

Having read everything Lovecraft published in an omnibus, At the Mountains of Madness is the best true horror story among them. Cosmic monstrosities are one thing, but being stuck in the frozen bottom of the world with no way out and there's something else out there is just so good. There's a reason The Thing happened as it did, and you can feel these being in the same world.

New shirt ideas:

"the dystopia was before or after The Collapse? 🇺🇸"

"happy ending?! In my 'How can it get worse?' narrative?"

"Penguins? Do they come in albino? 🐧"

"The stock market collapsed and the world kept spinning"

"dont you love when corporations have more rights than their personel"
