It’s been a long ride, but after more than two years, Cities Skylines 2 finally has official asset support. In this video, I’ll show you how to install assets, test out some of the first ones released, and point you toward the resources you’ll need if you want to make your own. I’ll also share my thoughts on what this means for the future of CS2, and where I think the game goes from here now that custom assets are finally real.

This is one hell of a send off, CO.

@mygetawayart 10 months ago

this was THE milestone update. Fron here in, Cities 2 can truly take off. Sad to see CO leave now but hopefully, lots of their employees can move on to Iceflake and keep working on the game.

I almost had a stroke seeing the Thumbnail. That's the Town Hall of my City.

Correction; the intercity/ coach buses had been in the game since day one. They were just hidden for some reason. Theyre not new lol

Thank you for pointing out that there aren’t many Aussie assets! Melbourne is such an amazing city with some gorgeous gothic architecture that doesn’t really exist in the game yet. I have never modded anything before but I’m definitely going to try and create some local assets.

The creator of those pubs must be from Melbourne as these are two iconic places we all know and love.

This almost makes the me sad for the departure of Colossal Order, it really feels like they're going out with a bang.

@jasonmako7362 10 months ago

Feels like they're just releasing everything they've been working on over the last two years whether it's working or not before they move on from Paradox.

I can't wait for road and sidewalk texture replacement, custom realistic looking vehicles, road mesh edits that allow us to make medians and sidewalks that don't leave weird gaps or warp on roadbuilder when using different sidewalk or median sizes, boulders/rocks that are large for detailing, new trees, shrubs, movie theaters, gyms, Target, Walmart, BestBuy, large warehouses, etc.

4K textures for something that you are looking from far away is crazy

@carlojustalero6644 10 months ago

with the massive asset they need to improve the performance

I've gotta say, if theres one thing CS2 does exceptionally it's the night time ambient lighting

NO WAY I saw the City Hall of my hometown in your thumbnail. Never expected that. It looks incredible realistic btw.
Shoutouts from Augsburg!

God I'm so excited to see what comes onto PDX mods from asset creators. Finally, we can get things like churches, train stations, old/classic buildings. I love building old, historic neighborhoods, especially American Western ones like here in Colorado, so I'm really hyped to see what kinds of things come.

A custom assets creator should have been baked into the game from the start and this game would have been a hit. It should have been built so deeply into the game that the devs used it to make the assets.

So funny to see the CS2 asset version of a building around the corner from my work (on the other side of the world) make a brief cameo in a CPP video! Never would've seen that coming.
