You are a legend and I for one love and appreciate your vids. I am looking forward to those updates as I am thinking it best to wait for a snow dump and low temps to trigger at least one of my planned trips to Europe this coming season. So the sooner you can let us know when that happens it will be hugely appreciated!

Thank you for your report!

Time was when you could ski year-round on many glaciers in the Alps. I skied year-round on Kaprun, Stubai and Hintertux. But last year, it was so dry that many ski areas struggled.

It will interesting to see how the season develops, it is early so I'll wait and see.

Stubai also opens at 9th of October. Next week is consistently cold around 3000 meters. We will check how it will come out for the autumn holidays. Last years were more fun, for sure. Most resorts are opening in around Dec. 12 though.

You can chose between skying on rocks, soup or fall into a glacier. Not so surprising after seeing temperture close to 30 degrees at end of september, which is way over what could happen a few years ago.

A late start in South America? Up North, too?bTypical strong El Niño year: too warm, too little moisture. But mid-Dec to January? The winter fire hose comes, just as in South America, seems likely.

Remember, it is only the beginning of October. How can you expect much skiable terrain this early. Don’t hold your breath. It might be a bad season for skiing due to El Niño. I want a good year for the Alps. We’ll see.

I think that this summer was fatal for many mountain itineraries on glaciers: even if in the coming winter there will be abundant snowfalls, they will not be enough to replace the former snow bridges covering the crevasses.

I wouldn't even think of skiing in october. This is all a stretch anyway.
And completely ridiculous how it turns out now. I wouldn't like to be there.

.. and remember .. when skiing puddles and rock on October, only ever do it on rental skis !!!

That whole Video is based on "old" Video material. Since the 3rd of October it snowed in almost every resort you mentioned in the Video. Pitztal, Hintertux & Saas Fee now look much better then the 3rd of October. But thanks for the Video:)

"traditional snow cannons". Like something you might find in an alpine museum alongside alpenstocks, theodolites and a first edition of Whymper's "Scrambles".

dude, just take up surfing and enjoy life a little

I see the world in trend lines, and if you look from where the ice age was at its maximum the warming of the Alps etc is a trend which has been going on for more than 10,000 years. Human activity has just accelerated that process in the last few decades. That is a shame as skiing is a great hobby (even better than golf!). Alpine resorts or where the lifts start and the pistes stop will have to move higher up the mountains. That is the only solution. Thanks for the update.
