For over 50 years, a single ride system has existed within the Tomorrowland section of the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World, Florida. While it has gone through various iterations from a Mission to Mars and a terrifying Alien Encounter, the final form came with the animated character, Stitch. This also became one of the most hated attractions at the resort and one which ultimatly closed for good and has sat in a state of abandoned limbo for years now. Let's find out what happened.

Let me be honest. If they brought back Alien Encounter now and made it a seasonal attraction for Halloween people would be climbing over each other to ride it.

I kinda find it funny that Stitch's Great Escape was also terrifying for small children as someone forgot that children are afraid of the dark.

Former cast member here! I was a custodian at MK during my DCP last year. I can confirm that some remnants of the ride are actually a break room now! The queue is still completely in tact, and I actually took my break there a few times. It was really cool!

The burp being described as an unpleasant odor is an understatement. I was close to vomiting from it and the scent persisted in my nostrils for the next several hours. The Disney imagineer who came up with that idea should be put on the Mission to Mars, and I'm not referring to the attraction by that same name.

I miss the days when some rides didn't have to be based off IP. Something unique like Alien Encounter or the Timekeeper across from it. Just glad the Carousel of Progress is being maintained.

I will never forget my first and only time on this “ride”
The shoulder restraints didn’t stop when they hit my shoulders and it kept pushing down on me crushing me. Then the ride started, I was being squished by the restraints and trapped in a dark room with loud noises, flashing lights and horrible burp smells. I was undiagnosed with autism at the time. It was a sensory nightmare, I had no words to describe the sheer torture I was feeling. I am still emotionally scarred from it. 😂😂

I remember those rumors about Stitch getting replaced by Wreck It Ralph! Funny enough, Tokyo Disneyland has recently announced a Wreck It Ralph attraction in their Tomorrowland! Magic Kingdom might never receive this attraction, but I'm glad to see the idea never died. RIP Stitch

I didn't grow up with Alien Encounter. I only knew it as Stitch's Great Escape. I rode the ride once, and it was more than enough. I don't really remember the pre-show stuff, but I do remember seeing the animatronic.
