Excited to watch this! Can't wait to hear your thoughts. I love that Potter fans can all have their own ideas and debate on this platform.
Edit: Okay, I've watched the video all the way through and my god this was a great watch! I loved the raging, I loved the side notes you went through, and I loved hearing your takes. I smiled a lot while watching this, I love this fandom. Keep up the great work Brett!

“Justice for Cho, she’s not the snitch!” Of course she’s not, she’s a Seeker 😉

Prof. Binns is prime “cold open” material. A montage of him back in the day at Hogwarts waking up every morning and going to class and continuing with his lecture everyday, that ends with him getting up, going to class and continuing with his lesson as the camera pans to his body having remained in the staff room. Then the 1st scene after the opening credits is just a continuation of his lecture but now it’s “present day” and our focus shifts to our characters now in his audience.

Hope we get Roonil Wazlib

I think this should've included Ernie MacMillan. The movies give the appearance that Harry is a bit of a loner, and it'd be good to see Harry as the more popular and likable person he is in the books. He's one of the few people in school who immediately believes Harry about Voldemort's return and is a very active DA member. Not to mention, he's the only Hufflepuff friend we see consistently. He actually has quite a few scenes, with some good ones in the Chamber of Secrets and the Order of the Phoenix, especially with Umbridge and the DA.

Professor Binns is great for exposition. Literally exists in the books just to tell historical information more accurately than anybody else alive would know about.
Also the scenes in his class where everyone is just falling asleep and whatnot are brilliant!

I don't think Amy and Dennis were killed by young Tom Riddle. If I remember correctly, the orphanage director said that "they were never the same again," implying that they were psychologically scarred but survived.

The only things I need from this show is: 1) spells that actually do what they are supposed to do, rather then just knock people down. 2) the final duel in front of everyone with harry humiliating voldy as in the book and 3) every single voldy-related memory from the half-blood prince. I know it's not the most popular opinion, but learning about voldemort's past and about his family were absolutely fascinating, i NEED that in the show.

I really hope that we see Teddy Lupin or at least have way more mention of him. Not just because this is a child of a marauder, but also because Harry was made his godfather.
I think it’s such a wholesome moment in the book and Harry gets more (loving) family connections.

There’s an interview with Rik Mayall where he’s asked about his favourite roll he’s ever played, and he actually said peeves!
But he said the reason it’s his favourite was because he got paid a lot of money for a small roll that never made it into what he called a “sh*t film”🤣

Honestly pretty much all of these go into the "I want them" tier at least, because I want the show to be book accurate

I looooove the idea you had of a regulus inferi cameo that the audience can piece together later on!!! I think I agree with pretty much all your takes on the characters
One thing I want the show to really nail is the difference in the three main house elf’s personalities

Kreature continues to glorify his masters because he has been corrupted by their ideology

Winky struggles to balance her loyalty and self worth as her family doesn’t value her but she values them

And Dobby recognizes his true worth and chooses to defy his family (at great cost) to serve good wizards and help make the world a safer place

The fact that Madame Malkin is higher in his tier than Bertha Jorkins is just ridiculous. 😂

The marriage of Bellatrix and Rodolphus was an arranged marriage to unite the powerful Black and Lestrange families, but she really didn't care about him. Her obsessive attraction to Voldemort is hinted at but not discussed explicitly in the books. He also seems to care about her more than the other Death Eaters, but he's not shown returning her feelings.

Cho does get a small measure of justice in the movie. Snape tells Umbridge she can’t have any more veritaserum as he gave her the last of his stock to question Cho. She didn’t crumble or rat anyone out as she was under the potion’s control and so is, to a degree, blameless for her actions.

Nice analysis.

Peeves is important because he’s usually a catalyst for conflict I the story. He’s the excuse for the trio to be worried about getting caught at night

Have to agree with Brett on this one. I would even say Gaunts are the most essential characters left out from movies.

The kids from the flashback aren't super essential, but the flashback is and the flashback needs the kids otherwise it's almost pointless

Essential Characters imo: Professor Benz, Peeves, Professor Black, Gaunt family, Grubly-Plank (she heals Hedwig, takes over for Hagrid, essential at least briefly), Winky's story, all Voldemort memories, RAB w/Kreacher in the cave getting the necklace horcrux, Barty Crouch Jr and Sirius Black's escape from Azkhaban, more about Neville's parents, Frank and Alice Longbottom, Sirius giving Harry one half of the two way mirrors, Maria as the snitch instead of Cho Chang, more Tri-Wizard stuff, especially the Maze.  a bit more battle at he end of Half Blood Prince and Dumbledore's funeral, McGonagal getting stunned while trying to help Hagrid, Madam Malcon's Robe Shop meeting Draco before knowing who each other is would be a good starter scene, and finally, maybe showing Luna and Olivander capture, torture, and imprsonment and the Lovegood's home blowing up when the trio visit to find out about The Deathly Hallows.  More of this stuff really would go a long way to bringing the magical world even more alive.

Fred and George are responsible for Malfoys discovery of the vanishing cabinet. They pushed one of the slytherin students in it one year and he managed to get out of it after some time, noticing that sometimes he was at hogwarts and others he was at B&B.

Teddie Tonks is not necessary as a character. But learning of his birth and Harry being made his Godfather is ESSENTIAL. Its a full circle moment for Harry and Lupin's relationship.
