Its not that they think women don't want romance.

Its that they think women shouldn't want it.

This is what Sydney Sweeney meant when she said the Hollywood female empowerment movement was fake.

They don't think you hate it, they are trying to convince you you don't need it or want it.

Romance doesn't make people weak. It can be a source of strength, resilience, and vulnerability, all of which are essential aspects of a well-rounded human experience.

Hollywood: *makes zillions of dollars off romcoms for literal decades*

Also Hollywood: "Women don't want romances with men in their movies. That's just silly."

One of the most popular character archetypes in fiction and even real world stories is the man who is willing to lay down his life for the women he loves, in what world is that considered as “weakness”.

As a member of the female audience. BRING. ROMANCE, BACK!!!!!!!!!! It’s not weak or bad for a woman to want love, they can still be strong and badass in different ways but don’t have to be annoying Mary sue girl bosses!

As a woman, this has really been annoying me in recent years. Especially as someone who has struggled to find dates, it’s really disheartening to have so many of the movies and shows I watch telling me that I shouldn’t want a relationship anyway because women are somehow stronger by themselves. I hate that so much.

That alternate take on Wish (have the villains be a power couple, give the heroine a romance plot) sounds so much better. Instead I guess we got the power of sisterhood between the queen and the heroine and it feels so fake...

Honestly, having a love interest in Captain Marvel would've been unrealistic due to the fact that she's unlovable 😂

I'm a man and even I like romance in non-romantic stories.

Love is part of human life. Portrayals of romance remind us of something that we do live through (or for) in life.

I'm almost concinced that all those writers are just single and bitter about it. Or stuck in a loveless mariage.

What happened to love being the greatest weapon/strength of all time? Or "power of friendship" last minute power-ups to save someone? It feels almost dystopian that Hollywood is kinda demonizing love, like caring for other people is a bad thing.

Hey Hollywood, if women hate romance, then why do so many women love Jane Austen?

I remember seeing disappointment that Barbie and Ken weren't a mutually supportive power couple. Instead the film fell back on toxic dynamics.
What's funny is if you go through Barbie's CGI movies they all make an effort to make the love interests good men and not just there because Barbie needs a Ken. Honestly they could out pace Disney in the fairytale romance department.

I think they know women like romance; they just think they shouldn't like it and so showcase strong, independent women who don't need no man... or struggle... or personality... or humility... or kindness... or empathy... or--

Been noticing this too and I just hate this idea that they are somehow being more progressive for not having their female characters fall in love since isn't love such a natural part of the human experience? No wonder most modern media just feels so...sterile and lifeless.

This makes me love 2017’s "Wonder Woman" even more because it knows that love is a great way to humanised a character.

This is why I've been watching Asian dramas like nobody's business. They do romance and swoon worthy content that I wish the US would pick up on.

Why does it look like it's conditioning and not entertainment? They look like they want to stop people from actually falling in love.

If anybody thinks women hate romance, that's BS. Some do, but most women love romance regardless of orientation. Romantic movies, books, and romantic game apps are heavily targeted towards women for a reason. It doesn’t make women or girls goofy or stupid for wanting to see that or experience it. Women can seek love and still seek more in life.
