What's your favorite boss theme from OoT?? What Zelda game should we cover next?

You gotta talk about the LEAD UP to the fight too. The creepy organ that gets stronger and louder as you wind up the stairs only to find it's Ganondorf actually playing the organ!

I love that you can hear a bit of the Gerudo Valley cadence in Ganondorf’s theme, because he too is a Gerudo

Koji Kondo belongs on lists of greatest 20th Century composers.

"This is a theme of a warrior who's tired."

I think you nailed the feel of that final theme perfectly with that line. It's the kind of music that's composed (ha!) of both desperation but also with a tremendous weight of responsibility.

That very ending fight gives me chills to this day. The pure rage in Ganondorf's scream, the transformation, the title card... No fancy adjectives, no posturing, just....Ganon. UGH so good!

Koji was in the studio cooking his ass off like rent was fucking past due

Dude you are on an absolute roll with these oot videos

The Ganon theme also carries the mysticism and middle-eastern feels of the spirit temple and the gerudo waste

Ganon's theme always felt quite somber to me. Ganondorf, in a last ditch effort, sacrifices his humanness to become a rage incarnate; a beast. His depravity and desperation can be felt in that final theme.

The way i think about that last Ganon theme is that we are hearing it through Link's perspective. the real song could be just as crazy as all the others but he is so determined and focused, the music is all a slowed blur, his emotions completely and utterly focused while his body is strained to the max.

11:50 Ganon's theme isn't about Ganon anymore. He is in his final form, Link is not. It's the sound of Link's solemn presence, inner resolve, and destiny. It's the theme of Link finishing the job once and for all, as Ganon thrashes in the throes of death.

I wonder if at least some of the intention with the final Ganon fight is that it's supposed to sound a bit "godly", since you're basically fighting the power of the triforce itself as Ganondorf has given himself up to it to transform into Ganon, which is literally the power of the gods of Hyrule.

The genius of these boss themes I think is that while there is so much  dissonance and chaos going on, the melody on top is still always so memorable. Somehow in all that chaos Koji Kondo finds a way to make a hummable melody on top that sticks in your brain nearly 30 years later.

To me, that final Ganon theme is supposed to sound like finality. Like resolution. It's mano y mano, one will live and one will die, but no matter what, this is the end.

MY FAVORITE TIME SIGNATURE IN GAMING IS ABOUT TO BE TALKED ABOUT LET'S GO 23/16

The Ganon theme at the end SOUNDS like the saying “it’s always darkest before the dawn”

I have ALWAYS adored the very final boss music against Ganon himself, it really feels like this is your moment, that you’ve come too far to die now.  It’s the ultimate Big Hero Moment and I LOVE it.

The final Ganon fight in this game is one of those moments that will stick with me forever. The music is a massive part of that. Instead of the huge bombastic sounds from the Ganondorf fight just before, we get this low, rumbling song and unexpectedly restrained composition, like we've moved into a fight that transcends these specific characters and time itself into something more elemental, light vs dark, hope vs despair. I remember the intense chills I got the first time playing it, and it still routinely brings me to tears. Thanks for covering these, it's been a really fun ride revisiting them through your lens.

Ganondorf plays tennis. Of course you can do that.
