Considering nearly every antagonist is named after gemstones, Prince Demande is supposed to be Diamond.

I wish they had included the scene when Minako looks up at the sky worrying about Usagi and Mamoru and says “Don’t worry guys we’ll save you” (talking about the other sailors)

HOLY SHIT VERONICA TAYLOR PLAYED PLUTO?! ASH WAS OUR CHILDHOOD SHE DESRVES BETTER!

I think the name is supposed to be Diamande, french for Diamond, since everyone is named after gemstones (Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald)

The 4 of them are named after precious stones: Demande - Diamond, Rubeus - Ruby, Safir - Saphire, Emerade - Emerald. It’s somewhat of a pattern in the first few arcs and one thing to understand is that Takeuchi was studying geology before she became a mangaka so she had a thing for rocks.

Although one alternative interpretation is that like the 4 kings from the first season, who were named after varieties of Jade, the 4 here might have been born as guardians for the heir to to the kingdom of Earth, which would be Chibi-Usa as Mamoru’s daughter, but been corrupted by evil. One of the ideas that the first season plays around with is that the moon princess and earth prince mustn’t fall in love because it was forbidden and misfortune would follow. Some of that misfortune seems to be that the guardians of the royal family of Earth instinctively oppose the heirs to the moon kingdom. I don’t know it’s just a theory.

It was neat to see the scouts have friends and even figure out their secret identities.  I wish they could've done more with that. At very least I wish they were shown in the future or at the wedding in Cosmos.

This arc, I feel, is when we start getting how powerful Usagi is. I love it.

i love seeing the differences made between the manga and anime.  some of them you can tell are either influences from the 90's anime, like Demande saving Sailor Moon before dying, rather than just trying to kill Sailor Moon and dying by her hand instead, or just because they wanted to tone down certain elements, like the rotting corpses/vulgar death scenes or Sailor Moon raising her voice at chibi-usa rather than almost hitting her.  I didn't realize how many conversations were changed, kinda makes me wonder why they would change it, though it did ultimately lead to the same ending.

Chibi-usa breaking free from Wiseman's influence is lovely in both the 90's anime and the manga!

I miss the 4 kings!! JUSTICE FOR MY BOY KUNZITE

Damn, am I really gonna sit and watch a 30m analysis about sailor moon?

I love this series! Thanks for this hope you do it for the rest of the series

I can't believe I only just found out here that manga Motoki knew Usagi and the others were Sailor Guardians! I think it makes sense since he was saved from the brainwashing incident in the first arc. Overall, yeah I can understand cutting it out for Crystal. That would make Motoki the only civilian who knows of their secret, and would explain how easy it would be for them to get to the control center.

@01:48 to mention the God Seiyuu Mamoru Myano and not speak of his iconic performance as Yagami Light is a serious crime! Lol. That aside, great job covering this. It was quite enjoyable.

If there was ever one single scene that I mourn the most for not being in Sailormoon Crystal, it's the 90s anime Dic english dub line from Usagi when they learn Chibiusa is their future child:
Usagi: "THAT'S why she drives me nuts! SHE TAKES AFTER YOU!!" 😂

This will prolly always be my favorite arc in any version of Sailormoon. Admitedly I miss 90's Prince Demande, but I love crazy terrorist Demande!

(7y/o me shipped him with Usagi, and though I'm not sure if that was because of the Usa/Mamo breakup plot that went on faaar too long and made him feel like the way better choice, or if I just liked the Hero/Villain vibe, it very much influenced my shipping tastes later in life!)

Demande is for Diamond. 💎

I’m glad that during arc/episode 15 Chibiusa is still holding that Toy gun to anyway who got trolled thinking it was an actual gun. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I never understood how chibiusa has the legendary silver crystal if the crystal was surrounding neo queen serenity

Venus should’ve gotten more to do. I’ll never understand why they felt the need to keep her around, if she wasn’t gonna have anything important to do.

it's cool on short stories but I wish I do see them in the ova.
