I Played Sticker Star in the Worst Way Possible!

One of the main aspects of the Paper Mario series is access to the interesting Action Commands! But did you know there there is never an obvious showing of this in Sticker Star? You could go the entire game without ever realizing that stronger attacks and guards exist. So I wanted to see if this game would be possible to beat in the "intended way" that Nintendo seemingly expected us to play.

17:38 Blue flowers are an indicator of invisible blocks in this game, they just don't tell you this and expect you do know it, as per usual lol.

So, funny story, that intro about a kid who's never played paper mario pretty much applied to me when I got this game. I didn't know how to do action commands and got roadblocked by the cone Goombas. Long story short, the most efficient way to get iron jumps isn't the stump, it's world 3, as there's a renewable iron jump before waking wiggler (if I remember correctly)

Kind of nuts the amount of craziness in this game revealed by challenge runs that would never be revealed in a normal playthrough because this game's combat is so easy to cheese

Hmm are you allowing glitches? there’s a technique called the “kooll album” where you can walk parallel to the barrier of a cutscene trigger while opening the album to cause the event to not activate.

This can let you walk behind the still awake Chain Chomp in the volcano to hit its post out of battle, then you can enter battle where it will jump towards Mario and the rest of the event will play as normal, requiring no action commands

I am that kid. The only way I managed to get past the first 3 spiked goombas was the hidden iron jump in world 3-1.

I have the solution around that chain chomp that prevents the challenge from being completed, in speedruns there’s a glitch called kool album which can help Mario pass certain triggers, in this case with it you can get past the chain chomp and hit his post then trigger the battle which gets past the roadblock of needing to use an action command

I find it funny that someone would go through all this trouble, to then look up for glitches to deal with the chain chomp, and use Kool Album to progress without ever finding information of what an action command is

You dont wanna know how long it took me to figure out that healing items have action commands. The previous games didn't even have that!... except... super paper mario?

0:40 Actually, Super Paper Mario DID have action commands! Kind of. If you shook the Wii remote as you landed on an enemy, you’d do a trick and get extra points (or something like that).

Also, as someone else mentioned, most items had some “action commands” for more power too.

Holy shit that was me!! I was the kid who couldn't beat this game because I didn't know action commands were a thing. I only had Super to base my Paper Mario knowledge off of as I didn't know how to emulate the older games yet. As you mentioned that part in the video I realized I didn't hate sticker star as a kid because I thought it was bad but because I didn't think I could beat it. This video gave me clarity I didn't know I needed

24:36 They can't! Well, sort of. In Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story , Bowser is on fire after burning Calories through exercise and accidentally lights a Bob-omb's fuse. Bob-ombs seem to be able to light their fuses on command, but they can't put out a fuse once it's lit.
Based on Paper Mario: the Origami King , they could prevent themselves from exploding by removing their fuses and put them somewhere safe, but if Bowser Jr. could take them out and throw them at Mario at any second then they may not do that because it would waste time.
