The actual footage is amazing.

It seems like every major battle involving elephants also featured commanders who had no idea how to effectively utilize them.

Live by the Elephants, die by the Elephants

It’s absolutely wild how Legio X and Legio VII basically forced Caesar’s hand by charging without orders. That veteran confidence is terrifying! Do you think Caesar actually lost control, or was he secretly counting on his men to take the initiative like that? That moment completely flipped the script on Scipio’s elephants. What’s your take?

Great video man

The use of elephants in combat is always a boom or bust strategy.

The marching footsteps on the battlefield were perfectly aligned, moving in unison.

He was literally forced to charge straight ahead with huge blocks of much more experienced veteran troops with a predictable outcome. I wouldn't really call that a masterpiece.

Would love to know more about the logistics of feeding an army, with animals, that large.

Caesar was a lightning rod of overwhelming expertise on the battlefield and knowledge in order to win the outcome with religion. It’s BS but with Caesar it’s endurance and perseverance. 0:06

The coalition facing Caesar (if you can even call it that) was actually led by Juba, not Scipio. In fact, Juba once had Metellus Scipio beaten simply for wearing purple in his presence. Furthermore, Juba I did not lose due to Caesar’s tactical genius or any inherent superiority over the Numidian legions and cavalry,he lost because of treachery and weak allies. Caesar dispatched a Roman mercenary named Sittius to Mauritania to incite savage Moors into attacking Numidia from the west. This forced Juba to divide his army, sending his best general and finest troops back to defend Cirta. He was left to fill the void with low-quality Pompeian troops and local levies who were no match for Caesar’s veterans. They couldn't even properly protect Juba’s armored elephants, some of which broke ranks and fled or defected to the other side. This left the remaining Numidian legions to fight a losing battle, which they did bravely until the last man.

The pompeians had the official descendant of Scipio Africanus, another Scipio. Believing that, none can defeat a scipio in the soil of Africa. That's why, Caeser took another Scipio from Rome and brought him in this battle to even the odd.
