with this professor at helm of HKU journalism school, no wonder our students are going down the drain

When the professor said Latin American countries are doing well, he lost the debate 😂

Li offered facts, prof offered rhetoric

No wonder the Hong Kong youth are so confused with this man in the education system.

This sums up the difference - Eric Lee a superb intellect using real lessons and history. Then the other guy...

I feel sorry for Eric. You can't debate someone who thinks Brazil is an example of success.

Seems like the HKU professor's arguments do not hold water.

Another professor commenting on China without any historical prospective!

The professor is mired in his twilight zone. I am severely saddened that HKU wasted good money on inept teacher, but even worse, deluded our younger generation with such lies and fiction, while imbiling with totally false realities.

The moment he said, "wants to make China open up, make China more like us" (in his very first chance to talk), this debate is already done. There's nothing to debate with people who think only they themselves (and their way of thinking) are the best and that others are trash.

"China is a market economy, and it is a vibrant market economy, but it is not a capitalist country; here is why. There is no way a group of billionaires could control the politburo as billionaires control American policy making. So in China you have a vibrant market economy but capital does not rise above political authority, capital does not have enshrined rights. In America capital, the interest of capital and capital itself, has risen above the American nations. The political authority cannot check the power of capital and that’s why America is a Capitalist country and China is not." Eric Li

That blew my mind, we think of Communism as both economic and political but democracy as political and capitalism as economic. Yet look at the US gov't, literally

Keith Richburg discreetly tried to outshine young Eric and failed miserably.

Nowadays Mr. Richburg can watch again this interview and tell himself: What the hell was I thinking? Did I really say all that aloud?

Question isn't about China integrating into the world, but western dissatisfaction of China's rise in becoming an equal, and worst of all bigger than US economy.

He should go back to the US and see with his own eyes, how many homeless on the street?

How is it that American speakers are always so entitled and superior, and so condescending to other cultures.
Gosh I can hardly listen to this guy.  Eric Li is  intelligent and open minded.

I wonder how will this gentleman react if someone tells him "we want to guide black people on their development making them be more like us".
Chinese don't want to be more like Americans or Westerners in general, does that sound like a sin to Westerners and therefore China's right to develop should be deprived? It's sickening.

I'm a westerner... but when I listen to Westerners I can only shake my head listening to the ignorance and arrogance.

Professor Keith is not a good example for someone to teach the young at UNIVERSITY OF HK. No wonder there were so much students protests at that time. I hope he is no longer teaches there.

Prof Richard talked about the Mao era. He should be ashamed of the sanctions and trade embargoes imposed by the Americans during that horrible times.
