Thanks again to Justin Wong and Yipes for hopping on, and shoutouts to White Claw Surge for sponsoring the video!

( 21+ only. WCSW, CHI, IL.)

The worst Fighting Game Character is whoever I am playing at any given time.

im gonna drink my fav alcoholic drink, White Claw®| Grab Life by the Claw, while watching this at work

Low tiers of today: a bit weaker but can execute their gameplan and work around their weaknesses
Low tiers of yesteryear: brought a water pistol to the nuclear arms race

White Claw sponsorship makes sense cause the average age of a fighting game player is definitely above drinking age lol

He didn't even talk about Dhalsim's super Yoga Legend.

It is an air grab performed on the ground. Dhalsim does a tiny flip and if the opponent is right over top of him then Dhalsim grabs them and flips them over. They take like 60% when they land. However, the opponent can throw tech the super and only take 20% or so and flip out.

The animation on it is very funny when it lands and is the reason I played Dhalsim. People didn't tech it b/c they didn't know what was happening.

iirc the reason kanji uses a chair is cause all the teams weapons have to be snuck into a department store to enter the tv world and thus they're all stuff that's easy to explain/hide

Yoo this style of video is always a  good ass time, format wise and content wise 👌 goin over bad chars or moves etc with guests is 👌👌👌

29:50 This practice is so commonplace that it's actually considered bad manners to actually play as anchor Captain Commando because A. You only play Captain Commando for Captain Corridor assist and B. You'd just be stalling for time at that point.

59:10 The basic gist is that Arc System Works needed funding, so they turned to Sammy, the company that would eventually own SEGA, to make Guilty Gear X onwards. ASW eventually fell out with Sammy, who basically owned all characters that debuted in X onwards due to the agreement and basically handed the Guilty Gear license to SEGA, who did absolutely nothing with it. ASW developers eventually decided to make Blazblue to sidestep any legal issues with Guilty Gear. This is also why Guilty Gear 2: Overture is a MOBA / RTS, why Dizzy was stuck in a crystal, and why she was referred as "The Maiden of The Grove."

59:30 Tsubaki Izayoi was initially concepted to be Noel's girlfriend but was made into following Jin instead. With the rift between Noel and Tsubaki, another character needed to be made. Thus, Makoto Nanaya was created.

Name a more iconic duo than wanting to play Fighting games and drinking 18 or more White Claws™️

As someone who has never been very good at BlazBlue and figures, if I don't know what a character is supposed to be good at, I just haven't grasped them, it was kinda comforting to hear that Tsubaki actually was as bad as I thought when she came out, lol

Roll's idle pose looks like MUGEN

Man, Arcsys should make another Persona fighting game. With how popular 5 was and with 6 on the horizon it would probably sell better

Holy crap this video was amazing. Especially the bit at the end about arcade ports. So many people need to hear that, lol. I had a lot of fun with this one. Thanks for sharing!

1:13:05 in Evo 2019 was when I realized that uni with 4+ frame delay was a different meta vs offline. It was the difference between reactable and unreactable overheads

27:59 to answer your question, Kanji's weapons in Persona 4 are "Big Objects" of various forms. This includes shit like the folding chair, a school desk, various large metal plates, replica shields, and even a giant roof tile. Dude's just out here swinging the biggest objects he can find, it's genuinely hilarious

6:00 Not Justin with holding info to make the opponent look more like a scrub.

My headcanon is that Kanji being bad was arcsys's joker moment, and that's what inspired them to create Z Broly and launch Android 16.

I feared the character choice when LK booted up BB:CS. Tsubaki is my day 1 BB main, and CS was my intro to the series. I had a lot more success with Ragna and Hakumen despite having less than half the hours on them than I had with her...

If we want to talk about bad characters, Ryoko in Karnov's is pretty bad. The only things working for her include that despite being a grappler, she has the game's fastest walk speed and she can use her command grab as a footies tool because you only whiff a jab if her command grab doesn't connect, and she has a plus on block frame 2 sweep (it's a foot sweep not a leg sweep, less crazy than it sounds).

What makes her bad is 4 main things: poor fireball counterplay, unfortunate system mechanics, matchups, and short range which bleeds through everything that makes her bad. First things first, her anti-fireball options are very bad because she only has 2 options: jump or a command roll which takes charge. Jump is actually pretty solid but like most classic fighting games, so are the anti-airs and Karnov's have many reversal moves that are safe on block with a lot of pushback which is bad because even if you land and block the reversal, your punishment option is just her far ranged command grab which does less damage than a normal grab and puts your opponent back into a knockdown situation where the opponent can try to reversal out again at low risk.

Second, unfortunate system mechanics: every character in Karnov's has a weak point and if you hit it 3 times then you stun the opponent. This sounds great, since Ryoko's damage is very good off of optimal hits but the issue is that because of her short range, you aren't going to get many opportunities to touch of stun or even 2 touch of stun as the rest of the cast. This is bad but where it goes from bad to horrible is when you look at her weak point which is on her forehead... on a short asian woman... yeah... needless to say but most characters have a variety of pokes, special, and fireballs that will hit her stun point and can easily route on her for touch of stuns (hey, at least it is not like the other grappler, Marstorius, where his stun point is his ankles so anti-air into stun is very common).

Third, matchups: 9 of the 13 characters in the game have a fireball and even the ones that don't have one have great pokes, Marstorius has a very long range sweep 3 frame sweep that the entire cast is afraid of and and Zazie has a far ranged light attack that hits around roundstart-ish distance in 5 frames with 10 frames of total duration. What makes things worse is that many fireball characters have a specific fireball or part of their fireball that hits Ryoko out of her roll.

Ultimately, she can win but you really have to rob the opponent with combos into her close range command grab off of jump ins or cross-ups or anti-air the opponent with her air command grab but it's a real uphill battle.
