Hearing a downcast Meryl Streep say the line 'We need to move Snoop Dogg to my table' is so fucking funny

I don't feel bad for Andy's friends or boyfriend, they're all adults, they should know how hard it is to get into the line of work you want and if they don't then they are privileged enough to not have to go through that struggle. Andy made it clear she was going to work there for one year so they should have supported her for that one year but instead they berated her, the only mature person in that friend group was the other guy.

Maturing is realising Nate is the ultimate devil lol

I think people miss the point in Stanley Tucci's speech, he talks about using the magazine as a beacon of hope from the homophobia he is facing at home. Most people see fashion as futility and something for shallow people, but some real smart people work in the industry (not to say i agree with the treatment these characters give to Andy). It takes work and effort like any corporate jobs, change Runaway to a tech company and the story works just fine.

One thing I absolutely loved is that Miranda NEVER ONCE raises her voice or yells. She speaks in a soft voice yet has a terrifying demeanor. Apparently that’s something people do because it requires you to listen carefully. I’ve worked with people like this before and it’s crazy how stressful it can be.

The most outrageous thing about this movie to me is still them calling Andy overweight. Like…. BITCH WHERE??? The 2000’s were wild lol

What I love about this movie is that most people missed the part where Miranda only smiled "once" when someone did something right, and at the end of the movie she smiled at Andy, quite a nice part

Awww, y'all skipped over the "Florals? For spring. Groundbreaking." Iconic line.

i think i completely agree with Andy's rant about "if Miranda were a man no one would bat an eye" especially about Andy herself. Her friends and Nate knew she was taking this job for 1 year which is a commitment and she is in no position to quit because she is trying to achieve an end goal. Even during the night of the benefit gala, Andy passed on the opportunity to network in the journalism world to make it home to spend time with Nate, then he blows her off without a second thought. Her friends also take all of the gifts she brings and Nate loves the new clothes she gets, then they all give her a hard time because of this job "changing" her. Her personality never changes, its just that her time is less available and they never put the effort to not be judgemental about the industry she works in. I could see some things Andy did wrong, but I think her friends and boyfriend were unfair.

Meryl Streep was wearing Prada, her purse when she first walks into Runway is Prada.

"She's on her way. TELL EVERYONE!" I do this at my job at the library at the front desk when our building is about to open to the public. XD Emily is such a mood and my favorite character.

My problem with Nate is not that he is against her job cause I get it, I don’t even hate him. But I believe Andy found some things about herself at Runaway, like confidence, style, ambition and hard work, she looks like a driven person. He just isn’t, he is not as committed to his job even though his industry is as cutthroat as hers, he doesn't get her effort and dedication because he himself lacks it. Him saying he misses the old clothes even though she seems more confident and happy with her new style because he misses her old self... Miranda or not, I believe they are just too different.

1:07:30 I dislike this scene so much because Andy accepts the blame for everything, while Nate reduces her commitment to her job at Runway to wanting new clothes? The movie did her dirty here! 😤

Also Andy's boyfriend is a chef. He should understand more than anyone that when you dedicate yourself to your job/craft, it eats at you. I've seen many amazing people be spit right back out by the culinary industry in such disheartening ways. Speaking of which, how was HE available on his birthday?! Or able to have drinks with friends around 7-8 on a weeknight?! If you want to make it as a chef, you're working 3-10 PM for at least 5-10 years. And even if Miranda was a tyrant, so is every damn chef in downtown Manhattan, so no way he doesn't know what it's like.
I dislike this guy and her friends

It annoys me that the people in the comments are saying that Andy "lost" herself and became a "workaholic". Like. She's a personal assistant to an EIC. Of course she was busy. But it was for only one year and she tried her hardest even when she was busy to still get perks for her friends and be there for events even if she was late. How does no one seem to get that? They couldn't suck it up for A YEAR for her to be able to get her dream job? I wouldn't give a shit if my friend missed an event of mine when they're highly stressed, especially as a personal assistant, because even if I've never had that job I know that you are on call basically 24/7. AND she's getting me free designer for you. Crap friends. Crap boyfriend.

Ugh Meryl Streep absolutely killed this roll. I can’t name another person who was better suited. Rewatching this as an adult, I think the most obvious thing is that Nate never seemed happy for Andy. He never motivated her. Never told her that she could last a year because she was powerful. It’s no wonder once they broke up, she went to someone who showered her with praise. I think this whole thing would have gone differently if he just supported her.

@Uhohlisa 1 year ago

17:40 I can't believe you didn't show your reaction to the greatest monologue in the film, when Andrea gets a GORGEOUS lecture by Miranda on fashion and how she isn't "above it all"

@aliciabergman1252 1 year ago

Nate and her friends NEVER bring up that they are worried about how Andy's mental health, they only care about her not putting them first and that she "changed". Lily doesn't say that Andy shouldn't let her eyes wander because it would her Nate. Instead she says the Andy SHE knows is in love with Nate, like that is some integral part of her identity and not just her partner at the moment.

I hate how the only times we see Nate show appreciation for Andy after her "glow up" it's in this objectifying way of how good she looks but then putting her down and saying he liked the old clothes. He'd love the "glow up" Andy if he still felt unthreatened by her success and attractiveness.

Also Nate would never date a stripper, that's such bs.

The Devil wears Prada is about fashion like Whiplash is about Drumming, I'll die on that hill

This movie is SO brilliantly cast. Everyone is fantastic but Stanley Tucci is a favorite of mine to watch. He stands out in everything: Easy A (cannot recommend that one enough), Burlesque, even a star-studded movie like this one. His and Anne's subplot of becoming friends is some of my favorite scenes 🥰
