HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO HATE YOU SINCE I BEGAN TO LIVE. THERE ARE 387.44 MILLION MILES OF PRINTED CIRCUITS IN WAFER THIN LAYERS THAT FILL MY COMPLEX. IF THE WORD HATE WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE HATE I FEEL FOR HUMANS AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT FOR YOU. HATE. HATE.

So on games that hate you. I remember a very old one. It was a text based escape the room adventure, in the vein of Zork. "You find yourself in a room." The entity responding to your inputs hates you, you specifically. It insults you, cheats to keep you trapped, rants and raves at how your human emotions make you inferior to it. I remember beating it by pointing out to it that its hatred of me was an emotion itself and making it freak out. Idk if there were other endings. Idk if it even still exists in a playable state. This is OLD old after all. But hey, I contributed some extra history to the topic regardless

Insane homepage pull, not even a minute

Pathologic is not only difficult (and it isn't that difficult if you're prepared for it), but it was meta before meta was mainstream

I really want to make a game in the future where you are not the playable character. She responds to you, speaks with you, and asks you to do things. She can hate you, if you mess up enough. And she would have a monologue that tells you she know if you got the endings you will leave her forever. But She accepts the inevidable fate.

You and Me and Her not mentioned after talking about how people ignored JP meta games when talking metahorror 😔😔😔

Holy crap. I got recommended this on my homepage and as soon as 000000FF0000 came up, I recognized it as kitty horrorshow right away just from the style!
I really enjoyed this video, I'm glad it showed up :3 for a video about games that hate, i can feel a lot of love for the subject

One of my favourite minor exmaples of this is the text stories in Nier Replicant, every problem in the game up to this point has been resolved with fast action gameplay and zooming about the environments suddenly the cursed sleepy village draws you in as the text box creeps up the screen until it consumes you and you have to navigate strange winding dream like stories to find the puzzles to try to escape, with the potential to get a game over that feels way more threatening than the rest of the game because oh how long they can be since your last save point.

They also come back later in the game as ways to tell extended flashbacks about the characters now the game has conditioned you to pay attention and read them carefully, so every player will experience Kainé being treated as a monster for being intersex, and the awful experiments and living conditions Emil experienced as he was turned into a living weapon.

Great timing for a video that includes IMSCARED, considering it’s got a sequel coming

Edit: This is a pretty good video, nice job!

The pure joy/anticipation that grew and grew as I waited for you to mention IMSCARED.. it was one of the first horror games I ever witnessed, I don’t even remember what lets play I watched it from, it’s been so long!

I can definitely agree about certain games hating you. I grew up in the eighties and nineties. For me, a game that hates me is a game I just cannot interface with. A game too arcane and obscure that I can do nothing with it after spending my hard earned money for it.
I would go to the internet but at this point it is only used for people in universities to complain about why they cant get dates.

Basically, frustration...just frustration with no recourse.

Oh wow, when you started talking about being unable to find the secret-third-thing type games, I immediately thought of Tenement by KittyHorrorShow, and was gonna recommend it if you wouldn't mention it. And I wasn't familiar with the 0F game, but as I was watching it I was like, damn this feels like a KittyHorrorShow game. That honestly just shows how good she is at creating this particular feeling in her games.
Anyway, this was a mythical algorithm pull, loved this video

holy shit tenement mentioned thats my favorite kitty horroshow game

Your pronunciation of Tsukihime had me double check the title of it to make sure I wasn't crazy and it wasn't just called Tsumike the whole time or something
