fun fact: you might see people in the transformers fandom use the "maccadams" tag. If you're curious about this, it's because the Bayverse movies caused the transformers tags to fill up with nothing but pictures of megan fox. Due to the sheer SWARM of megan fox pics, the fandom decided to jump ship onto the maccadams tag. Maccadams is the name of an oil bar in most transformers continuities that is normally a neutral zone where autobots, decepticons, and neutral parties can get a drink without fighting.

My favorite thing about Transformers fanart, is that sometime, since the logos are complicated to draw, they're often simplified as purple and red hearts.

We're talking about robots I am fully expecting fandom to be completely and disturbingly unhinged and I will be immensely disappointed if it's not

It makes me so happy when people start to realize that the transformers fandom is populated by robotfu<kers and not car dudes. I could not make this up we’ve been marinating here for 40 years dude. This movie was like a giant love letter to all long standing transformers fans

Fun fact about TF: Every piece of media for it is canon, just pick whatever you want and run with it. The sky is the limit, we are all clowns.

Two trucks holding hands

7:44 Hey remember that Megatron and Optimus Prime came LONG before Satosugu, so really Satosugu is Megop coded!

I love ships who love each other but have extreme ideological differences, creating a divorce so messy it kickstarted the plot (Megatron/Optimus, Charles/Erik, Gojo/Geto)

I always thought the horniest TF series was TF Prime. Starscream literally wears high heel drag queen boots and Knockout and Breakdown are a cannon couple.

No, no, you see, the Megop is not the Doomed yaoi.
It goes
Megop: Tragic yaoi
Megastar: Toxic yaoi
Ratchop: Sweet yaoi
Skystar: The actual Doomed yaoi

fun fact : The Transformers IDW Comics, at least for the beginning of it's run, adamantly decided to make all the Cybertronians gay.

I'm serious, there were no female Transformers for a good chunk of the story, and were only introduced much later.

So yeah, there's a LOT of robot yaoi in the series, genuinely official ships; Ratchet is canonically an old ass man with a samurai husband.

Did you know "astolat", the Megatron/Optimus writer responsible for almost half of the fics on the first page of highest kudos, is one of the founders of AO3...also actually a published novelist lol

As someone who's been in this fandom for 12 years there is some wacky stuff that happens that no one outside of the fandom would expect to happen and I love it so much.

8:24 Ok Coley, infodump time: Transformers can get married! They call it “Conjunx Endura” (which essentially means enduring spouse in Latin). Their version of dating is the “conjunx ritus”, which involves several steps, most notably the exchanging of little vials of innermost energon (the energon closest to their spark and the purest in their body).

There’s also a platonic version of this called “amica endura” which is basically a promise that 2 or more transformers will be friends forever (it also involves a ritual, I just don’t remember what it’s about).

If you want to deep dive into lore or cybertronian culture, I suggest the YouTube channel “Emperor Kumquat”. They have a ton of amazing stuff there.

Remember how Revenge of the Fallen depicted "Decepticon hatchlings"? That opened a whole can of worms leading to fandom discussions on whether Starscream lays eggs.

COLEY TALKING ABOUT TRANSFORMERS HOLY SHIT

31:25 It's so funny that Soundwave/Hot Rod are top 10 because more than half of those fics are made by ONE(1) guy.

no one ever expects to see how deep the tf rabbit hole goes and it's always a delight to see everyone's proverbial spit-takes when they realize transformers is so much more than funny robot become car

The fact that Brian Tyler snuck in some of his Transformers Prime compositions into the soundtrack on this movie is absolutely fucking legendary

I know the focus of this video was Megatron and Optimus, but it's very important to me that Coley knows that Soundwave and Shockwaves ship name is WaveWave
