Never forget that Patrick Stewart absolutely loved playing the Emperor because they gave him a massive lore book for his character and the world that he loved reading (even tho he was there for 3 minutes 💀)

You can't zoom out the map but when it came out there was a nice printed map in the box which I have to assume most players looked over while the game was installing / loading. If not hung up on their wall. The manual for the game was also quite nice.

I dunno the Grey Prince made the Arena special for me. And killing him after revealing his parentage is how my first character got into the dark brotherhood.

Your section on difficulty reminded me of my first time playing Oblivion. See, I didn't know when I started out that you need to sleep to level up, I just assumed skill leveling was the only progress. And I didn't learn you could sleep to level up until... Well I didn't. I went through the entire game at level 1, but with increasingly high skill levels. I was on the final levels going through Oblivion gates thinking "Man, I feel like this should be getting harder, but they're still just throwing Scamps at me!". I went through the final quest of the game, with a Daedric god himself terrorising the city, and all he could summon to help him were the lowest level enemies in the game. Man my character must have been tired.

19:44 There is one more way you get to see the entire map, if you bought the game back in the day. The box itself came with a folded paper map of Cyrodill

"Oh no. The players were having FUN with the magic system! We gotta remove all of that."
~Todd Howard, probably.

As a fellow "my parents asked a lot of questions about the Dark Mistress noises coming from the family PC in the dining room while playing Dungeon Keeper as a 5-year-old" Brit, I feel like we had similar gaming upbringings

Trying to listen in to a conversation and a npc starts talking your ear off is a peak oblivion experience

You should have covered the Oblivion DLC on your patreon - make us pay for horse armour once more! Oblivion was nuts, you could trivialise the game by not sleeping to level up, or 100% chameleon enchant your armour, there's a village that's a reference to Innsmouth (complete with creepy cultists) and there's Goblin turf wars.

Oblivions leveling system really makes it feel like its intended for you to find ways to break the game to become stronger by duplicating items and so on
