The staff running the warhammer store in my area is a really nice guy.

"It's not a pile of shame, it's a pile of future fun." - I like that.

My local warhammer store just got rid of the last manager. He was the best person ever. He really cared about the people who came in and would answer all the questions you had. Sad to see him go

Telling nerds to shower and clean themselves? You've gained a sub! It's an incredibly important message!

The whole one man store thing is so sad, we used to have 3 full time and another six part timers... It wasn't a big town, but man, we were busy. Loved it so much, shame about the pay.

My local games workshop store is lucky run by one of the nicest and helpful people I’ve meet. Also the shower joke was absolutely hilarious, you’ve earned my subscription.

The best stinkers are the ones that if they stand still in the same place for too long leave a stink ghost there for the rest of the day, like some unholy bo isotope

My local store manager has been there since as long as i can remember! He's amazing, i went to my first games day with him and the store. I left the hobby and came back a few years ago and he still remembered me from when i was maybe 14? (So 10ish years) still at the store! Man's in with the Bricks

the "make more money that last years month" is so coprate bs is just pushes people into stress and people end burning out

These big companies always set ridiculous targets. My wife used to manage a high street clothing store and by luck it seemed they were going to reach their monthly target. They worked really hard and managed to get their target and a bonus payment. The target for the following month was double the one they had just managed to reach!!  Talk about disincentive! No-one even bothered trying!

Me, before watching: "I wonder what insightful knowledge I'll take away from this?"
Me, after learning how to raid a UPS van at GW: puts on purple balaclava "LeTs Go KrUmPiN bOiS!" 😂

Print models upside down so they're right way up when they get to Oz?
Finally! An answer that makes freaking sense!  Mystery solved.

It's funny that you mention people coming in asking about Call of Duty. I saw a guy come to my local store trying to replace an XBox. That's likely why they changed the sign to say "Warhammer" instead of GW. I thought about that immediately when I saw the change.

I'm well familiar with that whole "beat the previous year" concept from my time at RadioShack in the late 90s/early 2000s. As a store manager, my income was directly shackled to the ridiculous idea that things would only ever go up.

Best was when I was promoted to manager of my first store. Construction on the shopping center started about a month before, and you couldn't even see my store from the street anymore. The previous manager had been fired for doing rails of coke off the bathroom sink. One of our biggest repeat customer bases was a retirement community coming in for their hearing aid batteries, and OH BOY wouldn't my grandkids like this $100 RC car and all the accessories! Pure profit. Nah, that dude would get mad when they didn't know our code for their particular battery, and he'd yell them out of the store. They started going to the much larger one in the nearby mall.

So I take this store over, and in my first six months I had 25% fewer transactions, and month-over-month was averaging about 4% losses over the previous year. 3/4ths the foot traffic, and basically a rounding error in terms of sales, AND still turning a handy profit. I went from (in 2000 money!) making $23,000 a year as an assistant making commission at the large store to a full manager making the $13,000 base wage because all of the fabulous earnings I had been promised were tied up in ridiculous calculation that was completely unforgiving and only cared about growth, not even actual profit.

Also fun story they didn't even let me fire the part-timer who was blatantly stealing from me (on camera!), and they even brought him back when he came home over summer break. Guess where that loss got recorded? My Profit & Loss statement! Which was where my bonus was calculated.

Call the knight Grom! Their stench and melee prowess deserve such a title!

Ah, you were a relief worker!
Also, according to our local GW manager, the one man stores were proto-typed with ours, seeing how well they did they applied it.

Got randomly recommended this video and. So glad I watched!! Really entertaining and straight to the point. Loved your insight and the way you tell stories definitely earned a sub!

Worked at a GW in Aus for 6 months, this video is entirely correct across the pond.

I got into GW when I was in the RAF in Cyprus 1987, there were no shops and had to get stuff from the UK. I came back to the UK and was stationed near Oxford, there was no store there at first, my nearest store was in the Plaza on Oxford street in London. I travelled there and spent all day running games in their store for them, Space Hulk was the big game at the time. I left the RAF in 1997 and moved to Peterborough. For over 10 years I went in there and spent hours sitting and talking ,I ran starter games and gave painting lessons, but suddenly the whole dynamic of the store changed. You could not go in and sit down at the tables, you needed to play or paint stuff. I stopped going in and collecting, I must have spent thousands on GW and FW books and figures, I sold everything I owned a few months ago.

Your story is so similar to my time as an on call for Games Workshop!! Except when I was holding the store before the next manager the only material they gave me were the previews for the next month.  So cool to see someone else have a similar experience tho
