I Hate How Good the Black Flag Remake Is

I was finally able to finish my review of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. This is a pretty well-made remake, almost to well made. I wanted to therefore sit down and not just review the game as a whole and as a remake, but reflect on what it means for the future of the franchise, and the deep problems I believe exist within Assassin's Creed and Ubisoft.

One thing about Resynced I don't think people are praising enough is just how well this game rewards you for exploring. There are so many outfits, swords, guns, trinkets & ship cosmetics that you earn by just simply playing the game and exploring.

It feels so damn rewarding going to a couple locations and finding a new outfit or weapon, whatever it may be, and having it incentivize you to explore more.

I hope every AC remake going forward gives you the amount of rewards for exploring and just playing the game instead of having to pay for microtransactions.

You perfectly captured all my feelings about this game and pinpointed the issue more accurately than most Assassin's Creed content creators: the problem has always been the writing. Systems change—they get modernized or recycled—but if the writing in an AC game is strong enough and the mechanics work reasonably well, the game as a whole succeeds. Origins has plenty of gameplay flaws, yet it remains a top-tier entry in the franchise.
Great video, my friend.

Something I really like about the remake is the outfits, the Edward robes look so good and some of the new ones like master assassin outfit and shade and shadows robes

I've played it yesterday for like 5h in a row. I don't remember last time I played a game that much for years. It was that moment I realized how good of a game this is! I went from treasure hunt to templar hunt, to random ship fights in order to upgrade the ship, I've cleared some smaller islands, I went to "unlock" Padre, I've upgraded my Mansion etc. In the meantime I've managed my fleet - sending then on mission... There is just so much to do and it's all just there, all perfectly interlocking with each other to the point where there is always something else FUN to do! Simply amazing

The quests with Lucy and Padre were actually well done, I actually had to check if they were original quests or new ones.

I also like how you nailed the truth regarding "real" assassin's creed: the writing and philosophy is everything. 3 pillars be damned.

Got spaniard before gta6

The writing mattering most is exactly why ac1 is by far my favorite ac game

Never played an AC game but I'm sure enjoying this one.
Fantastic art.

This reminds me of something I heard years ago. "the problem with writing in games is that developers have only read one book and watched one film. Lord of the Rings and Star Wars."

We should’ve been given a flag maker as a thing we could use to make our own flags to fly over the jackdaw as well as capture and use new ships

@RabidNemo 1 month ago

13:34 the other downside is that in the new version when you do that method it only allows you to scuttle the ship and get half of the materials

What a great vid dude, very thorough and thoughtful critique and elaboration. subbed! to better ac games in the future

The main issue that’s so obvious is Ubisoft can make the GAME part but they can’t do the assassins creed part that had put the franchise on the map years ago

@RabidNemo 1 month ago

6:58 I did enjoy that aspect but the only reason I had an issue with it is there were several times that it was glitchy and the guard wouldn't spawn or I couldn't get the key for some reason and I would just have to leave the area for a while and just fast traveling away and coming back didn't reset everything

I played black flag about 2 or 3 years ago and my feeling was "I really enjoyed the game despite the tailing missions, bad combat, and modern days ections punishing me for wanting to have fun"

This remake is about as perfect as a remake can get imo, it improved nearly everything. Now it's one of my favorite games, and I will for sure replay it

The rope dart can be used as a stealth weapon. You can pull enemies into bushes, but you have to wait for them to be alone because it makes a whipping noise when it's wraps around an enemy's neck. And they knew players would try because when you rope them unexpectedly you are still able to assassinate them. Once I found out I could it became essential to my stealth arsenal. You can even rope dart enemies off of cliffs and cut alarm bells.

I don't mean to hate on this remake, I'm glad people are talking about this franchise one more time but I think this remake kinda proves that ubisoft isn't really equipped to make a proper homage to the classic games. the writing, ignoring the modern day, mechanical downgrades compared to classic games (and I mean fundamental mechanics, like low and high profile and their integration into the 3 pillars). the devs are obviously passionate as we see each game improving on the last since mirage. but I still can't help worrying more about the franchise going forward
