Such a great movie of broken people trying to scrape out a life and find dignity for themselves. Its gritty, hard and beautiful.

Butkiss was Stallone's dog in real life. He had to let him go before the movie because he couldn't feed him.
As soon as he had a bit of money from the deal for the movie, he bought him back.....

I highly recommend watching a documentary on Stallone......he's an extremely inspirational person.
And he's such an underrated actor.

Rocky is a love story that happens to be about a boxer.

It’s impossible to explain to you guys what 1976 was like. If you hadn’t figured it out, that was our bicentennial. All day everyday for that year we celebrated. I’m not joking or being hyperbolic. It was so much fun!!! This movie exists in that context. Don’t use our 250 as any comparison. This world is nothing like that one was.

43:23 What’s really cool about the shorts is that it was actually a production mistake for the prop of his poster. So, they wrote the mistake into the scene. It works both ways as Rocky’s and Stallone’s underdog stories.

It's crazy that Cuff and Link are still alive and he still has them.

Rocky is one of the greatest love story's of all time

Rocky is such a sweet, unassuming character. He doesn’t mean anybody any harm. You can see that by the way he handled the guy that owes money. He just wants to box. He doesn’t have much formal education but he’s more intelligent than people give him credit for and has a lot of heart.❤

One of the great characters in cinema history.

you know...
Rocky 2 is now MANDATORY !!!

the first two are really only about a complete story if watched together....

"No kissing" in boxing refers to the prohibition of holding or grappling with an opponent, which is not allowed under the rules. This ensures that the match remains a stand-up contest focused on striking rather than wrestling

Growing up in Philly in the 70's, Rocky was a real hero to all of us youngsters. He transcended being a character in a movie. It was truly like he was a real person.

Kylies teary eyes at the end is perfect.

The reason Mickey says "Stay Down", Mickey is afraid of Rocky being seriously hurt by Apollo, and doens't want him to endure more. That's why he pleads for him to stay down.

I read the ROCKY novelization paperback when I was a kid. The backstory on Mickey was horrendous, his face was described as deeply scarred by nails and razor blades in the gloves of his opponents who cheated in the 1920s-30s.

This movie won the Academy Award (Oscar) for best picture that season.

You guys will LOVE Rocky II.

47:29  when you said you forgot you were watching a movie and thought you were watching a fight... To me this is one of the things that makes the movie great.  The final fight is filmed as if its from the point of view of watching it from the audience, or on TV.  It really has a real fight feeling because it was filmed this way.   In the sequels, the fights will have many camera shots that are filmed inside the ring, and I think that makes it lose some of the magic.

53:43 I like how right in the middle of the climax of the movie, Rocky is just like "Where's your hat?" That's what he's worried about as they're announcing the winner of the fight.

One of my favorite things about Rocky is the way Sylvester Stallone imbues him with that punchy way of walking. Always a spring in his step. Always opening & closing his hands - making mini sparring fist motions. You really feel Rocky's life. Stallone really has great instincts.

Apollo’s “I want you!!!!” taunt to Rocky just before the fight was Apollo recreating a WWI US Army recruitment poster of Uncle Sam
