Dead Space came out 11 months after Mass Effect.
This was the style at the time.

I clicked on the video with full volume and now I need hearing aids.

Ohh boy, you two aren't ready for this one. If you thought RE2 was bad, you're in for a real fun time

Cutting off the legs does work. It's even better than shooting at the arms as they are slower. Hold X to use the locator to find the next objective and the path to follow.

This is exactly when Cait & Katie are at their peak: playing games where they are clearly not the intended target demographic Ex: (Bloodborne, Dark Souls, Resident Evil, etc) Excited to watch you both navigate this horror masterpiece

Also, cutting off legs does work. It just takes usually 2 to 4 shots. Depending on how strong you upgrade your gun

42:27 The moment of realization that the health is on the spine!!  This game's entire UI system is actually one of the most subtly brilliant aspects.  You can always see everything you need to know without breaking the immersion or mood.

There's something special about your first time through any horror game... The unpredictability and lack of game mechanics mastery create a unique, tense experience. 😎

Great observation on the opening how the crew has no idea everyone is dead. They simply think they're on a repair mission never would anyone think lovecraftian horrors are waiting for you.

Back during the original dead space game they got a lot of complaints of the game telling the player to cut off their limbs cause the devs were worried that the player wouldn’t get it. The devs had y’all in mind during that initial release. Also make sure to stomp on boxes and corpses cause there’s loot inside

The lighting and sound design of this game is peak horror.

This game is RE in space. Love it!

Tips for the future:
1. I know there's a button for "Locator", you just gotta keybind it. It's a holographic line that leads to your next objective. It's great for not getting lost (without having to open the map that is).
2. Rotating the gun is good to maximize limb-cutting efficiency! You can switch between horizontal and vertical cutting.
3. You have a melee button! Stomp does damage, but in close quarters you can also hit them to push them back, which can buy you a little time. (I think it's RMB? Not sure on the keybind there)
The "zombies" in this game are called Necromorphs! I can't remember if the game explicitly mentions this, but that's what they're called. Make of that what you will!

I'm excited to see more! And I'm glad you finally found the healthbar lol

Omg this is gonna be such a good series!!! Luv u guys!! 🖤🩶

I find it ironic that you completely avoid shooting off the legs, when those are the limbs you want to take out first to slow the necros down.

Really enjoy watching people play the start of this game. It’s a great social experiment and the effectiveness of design can work. The early part of this game hammers you repeatedly with “cut off the limbs” guide. Written on walls and in numerous voice lines within the first 10 minutes of game play but then stops. It always made me wonder if that was a result of game testing and people, out of fear, reflexively aimed for the head. Since that’s what games for decades have taught players.

It tells you a lot about people seeing when they’re scared if they shoot at the limbs when scared or at the heads. You did very well going for the limbs early despite being very afraid.

It was also funny when you finally realized his suit shows your health. That was a big thing about the game having an immersive UI when the original was released.

«What am I doing wrong here?”
1) Didn’t loot the cases and boxes in the room
2) Shot torso instead of limbs
3) Shot each limb once instead of focusing one limb at a time
4) Didn’t use stomp for close combat
5) When spent all ammo - decided to retreat back into the dead end room with the monster instead of moving forward and looking for ammo/health packs

That’s the basics and you will have a really hard time playing if you don’t learn those fast…

It's amazing the level of details they included in this game.  I can't remember if it was Game 1 or 2 or 3, but I remember that if you keep stomping on one of the dead necromorphs, Isaac will start grunting and growling louder, like he is starting to really cut loose and unload all his pent up frustrations on the monsters.

This is gonna be so much fun to watch😂

Your channel is so good.  I'm glad I found it back when you did Elden Ring!

Please read the lore notes when you find them it really helps understanding the lore and story of the ship and the game.
