After my palette fell from a cliff during urban sketching, I knew I had to modify it. I’ll show you how I use metal plates to make the magnets much stronger.
I also received many questions about the paint brands I use. I’m comparing professional Winsor & Newton and Daniel Smith with a more budget-friendly brand, ShinHan. Is the price difference worth it?

I use Roman Szmal and love them, but I also wish they stayed making them in tubes. The newest brand I tired and love is Jackman’s Art materials 😊Oh boy!! They’re soo lovely!

On one of my tins the pin in the hinge works its way out periodically, which is really annoying.
I do have the frequently re-oil the magnet sheet to stop it degrading, far more often than I think I should need to.
And I also don’t like the way that the l paint tray doesn’t lay flat when I put the pallet on a flat surface, but instead is at an angle.
Oh so many annoying things! I still have four of them though because being able to have lots of flat pans of watercolour and gouache, pre filled and dried in different sizes that I can swap in and out of the different sizes of pallet depending on what I’m doing is very convenient and saves me a lot of space and paint. I still use my other traditional pallets too. It just depends what the need is.
Loved your video. I’m a big quin gold and permanent carmine fan too. Although I wasn’t fond of Daniel smith’s ultra marine personally.
Id like to have different sized pans but I'm wondering if they have to be Toolkit ones?
