Seeing this high-level politician change after seeing the outside world gives me hope that North Korea will change. You did a great job with this interview. Thank you for this

Two opposite people in North Korea and it is cool to get both perspectives!

Could you ask him to do a part 2 its so interesting to listen to two persons talking to each other who were from completely different side of North Korean society

What a difficult decision to make... choosing to save part of your family while condemning the other part of your family to a worse life. Brutal regime. Horrible country.

Such a privilege and honor to hear Mr. Thae Yong-Ho’s perspective. He’s an absolute legend!

As a Turkish citizen, I grew up listening to stories from my family, my surroundings, and even my schools about soldiers who fought and died as martyrs on the South Korean side in the Korean War. Years later, as someone who first became a professional taekwondo athlete and then went to South Korea to learn Korean, I have always been very interested in the mystery and isolation of North Korea from the outside world. I watched dozens of documentaries and listened to hundreds of escape stories. I stumbled upon your channel by chance, despite my deep interest in North Korea, and like everyone else, I was deeply moved by your story. I hope there will be hope for future generations, as you and mr. Tae mentioned in your video. We look forward to more content from you. Thank you for your efforts. LOVE FROM TURKIYE

In communist Romania, it was the American movies the people secretly watch that helped take down communism. Let’s pray many many people in North Korea start watching South Korean & American movies to help take down the dictator. Elites who live in the capital don’t want change because they are special and regular people continued to suffer.

less than 1 usd per month.. for a top 1% senior diplomat is crazy. I literally looked at a $1 bill thats pinned to my wall (amongst some other currencies of places I've been). And thought to myself.. that right there is ONE months salary for a top official, and its just something thats pinned to my wall. I wouldn't even notice nor care for even a split second if it went missing. Puts a lot of things into perspective

American slavery was horrible and what’s going on in North Korea is horrible both are bad no comparison is needed

I was born in ex Yugoslavia  that was a far cry from North Korea but there are some parallels and one thing is certain, North Korean high ranking party and military officials would rather see the whole world burn than to renounce any of their privileges. That's what happened in Yugoslavia in 1991.

I'm not American but I'm Australian and I just find the hypocrisy in North Korea paying people in US dollars or even accepting USD in North Korea 😂
I love hearing these wonderful stories of Escaping NK. I know i am so lucky to have been born in Australia and my children understand that too. People may joke or laugh at the craziness of NK but its definitely no joke for the North Korean people. I just pray to God that all the North Koreans are free soon. God bless you

brilliant guest. He should be given so many more opportunities to voice his story and provide insight into the inner workings of the DPRK

Can you talk about the future of the peninsula? Both Koreas are hella dystopian at this point. One is an authoritarian dystopia while the other is a capitalist dystopia. Both are going to have a downfall one day. It's miraculous that they even exist on the same peninsula.

I love these interviews Charles!! So fascinating to hear about North Korea from people who have actually lived there. Never stop making content love from the UK!!!!

Edit: it is fascinating to see how Thae Yong-ho has picked up a bit of the British accent along with the language!

Hi charles this is Ranap Siagian we met in lax last saturday

Hi Charles,
I hope you are well. I really learned a lot from this video about North Korea, and some of your reactions were the same as mine. I’m also shocked that you never had the opportunity to visit or live in Pyongyang, especially knowing that your grandfather helped write today’s North Korean national anthem.
But I’m glad to hear that you want a free North Korea, and I truly hope that will happen so you can finally visit its capital (if you want to).
Thank you for your daily efforts and have a nice day
Your BIG fan from Belgium
Stefano
P.S. Happy first of May! It’s the holiday when workers traditionally have a day off

Mr Tae is a great father, he thinks for his son’s future. He must have struggled to make a decision to defect. Very wise man

You know North Korea is pretty terrible when even it's own elite are trying to defect from it.

If I ever see you in LA Charles I'd like to give you a hug!

Slavery is slavery,  it is all horrible!
