It also explains the game design choices, as cyberpunk 2013 and 2020 were designed with super brutal and unforgiving combat systems, meant to represent your idealistic punks facing brutal opposition from trained goons who they slowly overcome as they accumulate hard skills and are hardened by combat

I would say yes, considering if you don't have any hand implants that connect to the smart weapons, you're still able to use them as conventional firearms, though they obviously lose out on their trademark feature.

-none are memorable
-uniques are just the regular weapons with a magic effect
-uniques can be replicated by random drops

The Chad Cyberpunk 2077:

-no guns are bad statistically, there's just better alternatives
-realistic guns but the weird guns are also somewhat plausible
-most are memorable, only a few are forgettable
-uniques have custom designs and effects unique to the weapon

I love the Erebus being so un-ergonomic, it just screams to me that it's not designed for a human to use. The very shape of the gun itself is as hostile to humans as the onboard AI.

There is actually good reason for the metel being magazine-fed. There was an actual magazine fed revolver called the Lanstad revolver submitted for Norwegian army trials, and the point was to use a two-chamber cylinder (like the metel) as an additional failsafe to prevent negligent discharge of the gun by allowing someone to carry it without a round in the chamber while still making sure it was ready to fire. It wasn't practical, and too complicated, so it got scrapped. The Metel uses explosive rounds, so maybe Techtronika REALLY wanted to make sure they didnt get set off accidentally and blow up the shooter, so they didnt want a round in the chamber, but still wanted it to be able to fire as quickly as possible, so they went with this design.
That's my theory anyway.

On the Matel, there is an actual real life gun designed like that. It’s super impractical, old and was never mass produced, but it does exist.

The trigger on the Nue is a fully adjustable trigger found on a lot of competition guns. The blade can be adjusted up and down and rotated so the curve meets your finger perfectly. The screw in front of the trigger is most likely to adjust the pull weight.

V's disregard for the weapons is appropriate if you consider these are not heirlooms, but tools to be used and discarded along the way to dying very soon. V can't lovingly hold on to things because V's time is limited.

A lot of the smart guns are made to cater to the rich, who want to be deady without having to do any of the work of learning to aim, do reloading drills, even cock the gun themselves, or who want to flex by outfittin their personal forces with them, hence all the weird expensive moving parts that do everything for you.

On the malorian 3516 (Johnny's Pistol), the weird round movement can work! And it has actually been done before. I can't remember the name of the failed military contract pistol that used this mechanism, but in modern times, the bond arms bullpup is the only pistol I can think of with a similar mechanism. When you rack the slide, a lifter picks up the next round and pulls it to the rear of the slide in a similar motion, allowing for more barrel length without making the whole package larger (which is the justification for the 3516 in story, i think).

18:07 OH! The outer forward "Slide" on the Omaha is a counter force MASS. Like the sliding masses on the HALO orbital MAC stations.  Its essentially a counter recoil compensation system. A sliding counter mass to counter the recoil from the accelerating forces. That's why there is a momentary delay. Its just physics. AND IT MAKES TOTAL SENSE on a Tech Weapon.

you know, the thing you do with pistols in the movies is also a thing you do with pistols in reality.  I deliberately trained myself into the habit of checking every gun i pick up every time i pick it up.  Note I didn't say draw, I mean like when I pick it up from a table or a gun safe.  Even if I'm 100% certain of the condition, I am kind of a dipshit and could very easily be wrong, so I always check.
Also, carrying spare cylinders is an old school cowboy move.  Black powder revolvers weren't really designed to be reloaded that way, but many of them could be by partially taking them down.  the colt single action army could be reloaded that way as well.  Also also, the Nova is loosely based on a lesser known Mateba series called the MTR.  It features the same low bore axis and forward mounted cylinder, has no external hammer, and was available in several calibers with the capacity and numbered suffix changing accordingly.  It was not designed to fling or hammer the whole cylinder out for swapping.

I find the common complaint of "what if the smart targeting thing breaks?" this is a setting where their tech, clearly must be quite reliable in general given how people are willing to replace vital organs with tech.If you have literally replaced your heart with a piece of technology idk if its much of a stretch to think they would trust the smart gun not to stop working.
