Hi guys!! Just an fyi, there’s a muted section around the 50 minute mark! It’s not your headphones or speakers, it’s that dang ol copyright 😂

I truly think this movie just came at the absolute perfect time for everyone. We needed some genuinely positive films just about two bros in space.

Grace found somebody to be brave for.

What he's saying in Mandarin: Basically "Why does he speak to us like we are children?" Strat's response "You get used to it."
Basically because Grace is used to interacting with children when relaying information.

The fact that Stratt is so stoic and composed the entire time but visibly upset when she's forced to send Grace against his will is a heartbreaking but beautiful touch.

A heartwarming thing from the book that isn't in the movie is about Eridian culture and knowledge exchange. Being a very aural species, when a group of Eridians gather, they can form a "thrum" - where they all get together and speak at the same time in a sort of symphony. This allows for simultaneous exchange of ideas and information across the thrum, and increases thought/processing power of the group, and allows them to better tackle the big ideas and problems.

The largest thrum in Eridian history was about how to solve the astrophage problem. The second largest was about how to allow Grace to survive on Erid.

Rocky was alone for 46 years 😢

48:00 commander Yao said, "Why is he talking to us like we're children?" in Mandarin. Stratt said, "you get used to it." 😊

Project Hail Mary is not only easily, EASILY my favourite film of this year but Project Hail Mary is also one of my favourite films in general of all time. I haven't read the original book version of Project Hail Mary yet, but I'd love to do so. I think the central themes of Project Hail Mary are unwavering friendship and trust (like when Grace took off his helmet and was pleasantly surprised to discover he was breathing oxygen). Project Hail Mary also teaches that if you do good, then good WILL come back to you no matter how long it might take. For example, Grace thought he had to choose between going back to Earth or saving Rocky but by saving Rocky, Grace was ALSO able to go back to Earth because the Eridians kindly repaired Grace's ship. Project Hail Mary is giga kino. Project Hail Mary is peak hopecore. Project Hail Mary is a rare timeless masterpiece of the 21st century. I always love Project Hail Mary no matter what.

Never thought i would even watch this movie... But turned out to be one of the best movies i ever watched.

Mary's atmosphere isn't just too cold for Rocky, but the oxygen attacks his "skin." We see Rocky oxidizing, i.e., burning.

37:40 the hail Mary's atmosphere was in the canister that Grace returned to Rocky. That's how Rocky knew what temp, pressure, and gas (O2) to put in the tunnel. It's just like Rocky's atmosphere was in the canister when Grace opened it.

Regarding the fireball during the fishing scene.

Remember the earlier scene in the movie with vaporizing the ton of metal? That was an engine test. When the Astrophage is used for the engines, it emits an insane amount of IR radiation.

During the fishing scene, the fireball you see throughout the scene is the atmosphere being vaporized by the engines. It is not the typical exhaust you see in a jet engine where the fire is the actual fuel burning. If there is nothing behind the Hail Mary when the engines are on, it is not obvious to the human eye. If there is something behind it, in the this case Adrian's atmosphere, you see it get vaporized.

This is used later in the movie. It is described in great detail in the book but only lightly referenced in the movie but Grace uses the engine exhaust to help find Rocky. He turns the engines towards where he thinks Rocky will be and he briefly flares the engines. The light is so bright, he watches for the reflected IR light. The brief scene of seeing Rocky's ship flash when Grace is looking for him is the reflected light from the engines.

Every time this movie ended in the theater (yes, I went and saw it multiple times) I turned to my husband and said "I need to see it again". This movie gets into your core, I don't think there will be anything anytime soon that will top it.

37:45- “They must have done so much research…”
Grace did it by returning the cylinder full of his atmospheric pressure, temperature , and gaseous content. Rocky’s smart.
Great reaction, statement.❤

55:38 They named the planet Adrien because that was the name of Stallone's girlfriend in the movie Rocky.

This is the best movie of all time for me. What an incredible journey of friendship among the stars. One of the purest friendships ever portrayed on screen. Girl, you would have been so at home watching this at a cinema cos we were all crying and sniffling away right through it as well. 😂❤

This is a warm hug of a film

4:08 he was in the coma for 4 years from his perspective but it was 13 years from Earth's due to time dilation. The round trip was 26-27 years before the probes returned.

This is one of those rare occasions where I love the book and the movie equally even if they are a bit of different it just works.
