Awwww he called Cena his "Wrestling Soulmate" he must have seen Cena's interview saying the same thing.

The Pipebomb is the No Vaseline of pro wrestling. Never thought of it that way but very very true.

This was the first wrestling moment when I was a kid where even after I knew it was scripted, I couldn’t tell if this was part of the show or not

There were so many things born just from that promo alone.

"Pipebomb"
"Best in the World"
"Paul Heyman Guy"
Eventual return of Brock Lesnar.
More eyes on ROH/NJPW

The Pipe bomb was a master class in dancing between real and kayfabe. He danced on the line perfectly

The thing about the Pipe Bomb is it still makes complete sense in kayfabe. Nothing exposing the business. It's more like a boxer complaining he's not promoted enough and getting screwed out of title matches for not being marketable, or a basketball player on a small market team that's winning complaining about not getting enough national TV games.

The man cooked last night.

If you're replicating someone to get over to coast on what he did, you're probably not going to.

The Pipebomb is what is because it captured a feeling in a moment in time. Punk was tired of WWE and not being at the top of the card, most fans were tired of WWE and Punk not being at the top of the card, and really it just became this epic and real vent of frustration.

Punk never really did get to the top of the card until now because Vince, like alot of lousy managers, preferred having control over having success. It's not like Cena was bad or a bad person, it's just that nobody over 10 wanted to see him beat everybody for a decade.

WWE had an anti bullying campaign at the time of the original pipe bomb. Punk was going to go into talking about Hunter and Vince and others being the biggest bullies in the business but he wasn’t allowed to go that deep into a shoot

I was there in the crowd at MITB 2011 in Chicago and let me tell you when he says the crowd is what stood out to him that night, he ain’t lying. My god was it so much fun being in the crowd that night for the match and being a huge Punk fan. The Allstate Arena that night, for the match, was on fire!!!

4:40 that's tough. And true

The fact that this was Vince’s idea is actually brilliant on his part.

Punk is such a master of his craft, as good as everyone says he is I still think he is under rated for just how actually good he is on the mic and his brain for the wrestling business. I’m so glad he came back to it because it would of been an absolute tragedy to have lost a mind and performer like him for good the way we nearly did

The original pipe bomb was on the go home episode of SmackDown to Survivor Series 2001 by Paul Heyman.

I do remember watching the promo live. I remember being extremely mad when the mic was cut. Lol I was like wtf happened? And he wasn't on the next show but John Cena said bring him back and I wad oh shhhhh this is happening!!!!

Notice how in this case you had someone whose contract was coming to a close, who had expressed real desire to leave, who was in the title picture and main event scene, and who had legitimate friction with the company and other workers, and yet they managed to find a way to not only capitalize on that and make it work, but actually renewed his contract on agreeable terms and made it look as though he was leaving with the title, and worked it into a storyline.

Meanwhile, back in 1997, something else and totally unnecessary played out. Obviously different circumstances, and the company was much more under threat by very potent, very real competition then in a way they weren't in this case. But still. I'm just saying. There were clearly ways to make it work. It's sad they couldn't. Imagine how incredible the angle could've been if they had, given the people at the center of it and the quality of their work.

The “pipe bomb” is easily one of the best promos in history. I grew up as a kid in the attitude era and saw a lot of great promos then. Stopped watching wrestling in like 2005 as I was in high school and didn’t really care much during those years but sometimes kept up with what was happening still. Didn’t know much about Punk really when he cut that promo but remember seeing it after the fact and being like “damnnnn”. Got back into watch again a few years ago and that’s still one of my favorite promos of all time

That suplex to the outside still hurts me thinking about it

Now that he told us the process behind it and rewatching the pipebomb, I can totally as what point did his micro expressions said "okay, what else should I say"

If Punk ever writes a book, I'll be first in line.
