The reason why Churchill did that V-symbol with his fingers is so that he could poke Hitler in the eyes.  But Hitler was fast and stuck his hand sideways to block Churchill's finger poke.  Then Hitler said, "Nyuck!  Nyuck!  Nyuck!" But then Churchill stuffed his cigar into Hitler's pants and the rest was history, and still is.

Peter Caterill was one of my lecturers at Queen Mary. Nice guy, had shorter hair back then, but it's funny to see him look so pissed off and serious about an obvious wind-up.
