Do you think the United States is currently going through the Second Gilded Age?
If so, do you think the United States is overdue for another Progressive Era?

a coworker once recently expressed their worry that we're seeing the end of the Roman Empire

i reassured them that we're more like seeing the end of the Roman Republic

I think the main takeaway you should have is this:

These may feel like unprecedented times, but history shows us that we have been in very similar situations before and we can fight for a better world and succeed if we don't lose hope.

I have yet another connection: this the SECOND time a president has served non-consecutive terms, the previous one was Grover Cleveland, whose first term was 1884 to 1888 and who's second term was 1892 to 1896.

We have a lot of work to do. Over turning Citizens United would be a very good start.

I was listening to an interview with the legendary musician Louis Armstrong, and he was talking about how "this drummer was amazing, he was huge in the 80's". I had to pause for a second.... The 80's?? This audio is from the 1920's, ohhhhh he's talking about the 1880's, it sent my brain in a whirlwind, time passes by so fast it's crazy 😅

When you got to “rampant misinformation” I was so scared it was going to be a ground news ad

Are we just gonna ignore that Mr.Beat LOST HIS LEGS?? and then GREW THEM BACK??? witchcraft. I’d say this is more like the early 1690’s !!!

Here's hoping the 2030s are like the 1900s... now who's our Teddy Roosevelt?

Weirdly enough, the knowledge that history repeats itself kinda comforts me

Watching this made me realize we’re living through the same struggles people faced over 100 years ago. Feels like history repeating itself.

Hey Mr. Beat, my professor of constitutional law in college was a well respected scholar named Richard B. Bernstein. He died a couple years ago but he was a big fan of yours and used your videos as homework occasionally. Just thought you’d like to know

Definitely need the part now of how they overcame the mess of the 1890s, please.

Honestly one of the main take aways from the first part of the video is that recessions tend to cause worse policies which absolutely do not help in getting out of recessions
