I used to love Beamish Irish stout from Cork

great video!
Been watching your stuff for years..
Here in Michigan, USA

Have a go at Belhaven black, you wont be disappointed!

I have never been a lover of stouts, after watching this, I'm going to dive in ! Loved your descriptions of them. Love from Essex, boyo!

I haven't watched this yet, but London Black is clearly one of the best on the market.
The blandification of the British palette is due to all the homogenous, ultra processed, salty, grey, e number saturated US style convenience food swarf so many of us unquestioningly scoff day in, day out

I agree with most of the reviews on the channel, but don't find Guinness as bad as all that....it's quite a standard plain stout, but I find it really smooth, reliable and quite pleasant. I agree it isn't as good as some craft stout, but at £3.50 in Wetherspoons, Guinness is a reliable affordable option.

I highly rate and recommend Adnams Blackshore Stout. ❤

I've had a few cans of Hawkstone Black now and all I can say is I completely agree with your opinion. I honestly found it addicting to drink. So many complex flavours there and it was a pleasure to drink.

Can we bring Stone The Crow Virtual Pub back for one night? A holiday edition?

I'd like to see a blind taste test just to add fairness

I just got a case of hawkstone, agree with you the taste is almost london black which is also my favourite stout.Great review simon

Wye Valley Nightjar & Weal Ale's Centwealial Milk Stout @ 4.9% are my two faves 😋

Liked the closing summary. Good vid 👏

I live near Stockport and randomly one of the pubs has been selling London Black as their only stout for months now and it's absolutely brilliant! I tend not to choose Guinness anymore now we are seeing more variety.

Gone for a case of the Hawkstone. Really enjoyed their ciders in the summer so it’ll be interesting to try the stout.

Recently I've been drinking Guinness Foreign Extra Stout brewed in Lagos Nigeria in a 600ml bottle with a gold foil top, 7.5%. Out of this world!  Guinness the way it used to be!

Awesome review! need to try all of them!

Guinness is not brewed with corn (glucose) syrup. If any beer is giving you a hangover....which is a tricky subject...then it is a combination of dehydration, the amount of alcohol ingested (leading to increased acetaldehyde as a breakdown product in the blood stream) and, this is less well known, the levels of the various congeners produced during fermentation. Higher temperatures especially in large fermenters can increase the levels of congeners.

I think this is really harsh on Guinness. Whilst it's not the very best and the big brand of stout, in terms of consistency and accessibility of the style it's pretty bloody good. Next time it would only be fair to include Beamish and Murphy's, and taste them blind.

I agree with you - I love stout but always preferred Murphy's and Beamish over Guinness due to the creaminess combined with the bitter coffee and chocolate notes. Guinness has those flavours but I think the wateriness of Guinness lets those flavours vanish the second it's swallowed. I also remember that when I was a child that I loved Mackeson and unfortunately, I've not seen Beamish for years either. I've not been lucky enough to try Hawkstone - I bet it is great though. I've had Brewdog but although I thought it had a better range of flavour than Guinness I did think it had a similar watery feel. I love Badger stout even though it is a flavoured one. At the end of your video, you reminded me of me trying to work out which SM whisky I prefer-- on one hand there is a well aged whisky that tastes of the woodland floor if you burry your nose in it on a hot damp day; on the other is an equally aged whisky that tastes like the same woodland floor was on fire for a week but just been put out by a light drizzle. Both so nice and after many  years, I still don't know if I prefer one over the other. At the end of the day, there are so many things in our environment and mood that change our preferences on a daily basis that I think it is fine to have different favourites for different occasions.
