So far in the Guinness Alternative Index… nothing has managed to knock Guinness off the top spot.

Which is starting to get a bit frustrating.

So today, I’m bringing in the big guns.

Two of the best nitro stouts I’ve had in the last six months go head-to-head — Hawkstone Black and Blue Monkey’s Nitro Guerrilla — before one of them takes on Guinness.

Can either of them finally take the top spot?

🍺 Beers featured:
Hawkstone Black (Jeremy Clarkson’s Hawkstone)
Nitro Guerrilla – Blue Monkey Brewery
Guinness Draught

📊 This is Episode 3 of the Guinness Alternative Index — where we test nitro stouts against Guinness using a consistent scoring system.

If there’s another stout you want added to the Guinness Alternative Index, drop it in the comments — the leaderboard is just getting started.

"Why are you downing five pints of stout on a weekday???" "It's important business in the stout community, you wouldn't get it."

Havent tried either, I need to get on it

This series is almost identical to the Jean Claude Van Damme movie Bloodsport. The only real difference being that instead of martial arts masters from around the world fighting in a tournament, it’s cans of nitro stout. I’m wondering if, in the final, the Guinness might try to cheat and throw salt in the eyes of the rival underdog to gain an unfair advantage. We must wait and see.

Draught Guinness was never for the last 30 years on the top spot. Once you're through the head it becomes watery, almost insipid. Most stouts, especially on cask, are much better👍🍺

Looking forward to this

London Black next?

Would be good to see how O'Hara's does. I've had both the bottled and nitro can versions, I think the bottled stuff was a bit better from memory but the nitro wasn't bad

For me Trailblazer is the best alternative to Guinness by a landslide

Great review. Top spot is Guinness in a can? I really find it hard to drink. Dark Heart does it much better.

Loving your reviews, m and s have a nitro stout and northern rising unity stout....which is £10.50 for 8 cans in morrisons (paid £2.50 for 1 in m and s) both of them are great but northern rising edges it for me.
