The lecturer will discuss how the chemical composition of Earth's atmosphere relates to
terrestrial life, specifically the main biosignatures and their sources,
"terrestrial" biosignatures on other bodies in the Solar System - Titan, Mars,
Venus. We will discuss the atmosphere of Venus - present and past, early
assumptions about the possibility of life on Venus, the possible life cycle
of Venusian life, and the dramatic history of phosphine on Venus. We'll explore the prospects for detecting biosignatures beyond the Solar System: the lecturer will discuss observations of exoplanet atmospheres, the habitable zone, and the Earth similarity index.
