Tarik Skubal delivered a blunt message about his competitive mentality while celebrating the Dodgers’ NLDS victory and trip to the NLCS.
“Winning is everything in sports. That’s why you play the game.”
Skubal discussed:
Joining the Dodgers’ championship culture
The organization’s preparation and expectations
Setting the tone as the Game 1 starter
Why winning is the purpose of competition
Being unable to relate to players who do not play to win
His excitement about taking the mound again
Advancing to the NLCS
Experiencing the Dodgers’ chaotic clubhouse celebration
The interview was repeatedly interrupted as teammates poured beer and champagne over Skubal, placed items on his head and shouted praise for their Game 1 starter.
Once the celebration briefly calmed down, Skubal explained what being part of the Dodgers means to him.
“The culture they have here, the preparation, the expectation to win—I love being a part of it.”
Skubal does not yet know when his next postseason start will come, but he said he is excited to take the mound again.
