Greetings from Barcelona ❤❤

How many fallas are?
About 700 to 800 in total. There is one in almost every big street crossing in the city.
While many of them take months to build they are on display in the streets for about a week so people can admire them.
The last night all them are burn out at the same time.

Hi, I'm from Valencia. It’s a bit shocking for everyone that we burn them, but there are several reasons for it. First, it's simple: more than 400 fallas are built every year, plus another 400 infantiles (children's ones) which are smaller, so it would be impossible to store 400 of them every year. Second, and most importantly, fallas are all about satire and criticism of many events that happen throughout the year, not just in Valencia, but also in Spain and around the world... and they are also burned as a symbol of purification. The fallero artists are highly reputable; many have worked on stage sets or even on decorations for Disney World and other places. The inner structure that holds everything up is made of wood. Until a few years ago, the figures (ninots) were made by hardening cardboard or layering newspaper to create a hard paste, along with the internal wooden structure. Today, almost everything is made of polystyrene; that’s why, in the past, when a falla burned, you would see burning 'papers' falling, whereas today, in many of them, you can see what looks like dripping fire, which is the polystyrene. On top of that, there are the mascletás and the fireworks of the Nit del Foc—something we Valencians are also experts in. In fact, for some Olympic Games opening ceremonies, the company hired for the fireworks has been Valencian."
During the night of the cremà—which is when the monuments are burned—firefighters are present. For the largest ones, which can be as tall as 5 or 6-story buildings, firefighters spray the adjacent buildings with water to cool them down. At the same time, they control the flames to ensure the falla burns properly and collapses exactly where it is supposed to. Here is a photo of what Valencia looks like on the night they burn.  https://s1.abcstatics.com/Media/201303/20/CREMANUEVA--644x362.JPG

The last fatal accident was in 2006, after which helmets became mandatory for children; the one before that was in 1983.
That is only half as many as at the running of the bulls in Pamplona.

Helmets on the little ones were introduced due to some tragic accidents. Injuries are common, but not as common as you can imagine. There's a technique of climbing, descendintg and also to fall down

ESPAÑA, es uno de los países con mayor diversidad paisajistica, arquitectónica, cultural, lingüistica,  tradicional folclore, y culinario del mundo. Intenta venir y visitarlo. Cualquier rincón de nuestro país, te va a sorprender.

Valencia’s Fallas festival is one of the most complex celebrations in the world. Its unique identity lies in the balance of three pillars: large-scale ephemeral art, pagan fire rituals, and the devotion of popular Catholicism.

We celebrate Fallas in Valencia during March, and Hogueras in Alicante in June. Both festivals usually last for about a week. It takes a whole year to build these giant monuments, and during the final night, they are all destroyed in a spectacular burning. However, only one individual figure—known as the pardoned figure—is saved from the fire and sent to a museum.

And in the video you watched, they don't make it clear, but one of the events during the Fallas festival in Valencia is what's called “La Mascletá,” where they set off many firecrackers as powerful as the explosives used in mines

13:22 it's a controlled fire. The fire place is surrounded by barriers and firefighters are there to keep it under control. One of the sculptures is always spared from burning. The sculptures are made of papier-mache and burn fast, the wooden frame collapses inwards and firefighters keep the surrounding are cool.

About safety precautions in la cremá, there is always a firefighting team on the ready beside it. Perhaps you didn't notice, but in your video they were hosing with water the trees and appliances to the left of the burning falla.
Also, city buildings are somewhat harder to burn there than in the typical US town. While the main building material in the US, at least in smaller buildings, is wood & plaster, in Spain modern buildings are made in brick & concrete, and older ones in stone. Even in small towns, where old humble houses are made in adobe, a mix of mud and straw... they are still harder to burn than wood.
Of course, the place where they burn is also prepped before. Maybe even, the urban design of that particular plaza was done specifically to allow the burning, and reviewed & approved before by safety authorities.

Jamon Iberico is my new drug :D
