We have a saying around here:

‘It’s not the size of the Dog in the Fight.
It’s the size of the Fight in the Dog.”

Chips=  the brains of a collie, the craziness of a husky, a the ferocious protectiveness of a german shepherd.

Slight correction to TFE's comment about Chips getting his medals revoked: Due to severe public outrage, the case was reviewed by an officer, who allowed Chips to keep his medals "because he already had them" (yes medals, both the Silver Star AND a Purple Heart) but would later reclassify Military Working Dogs as "Equipment" to avoid similar situations.

An extra fun fact: The person who campaigned to get Chips' medals removed (as you would expect) is not remembered by history except for the fact he led a campaign to get a war hero dog's medals removed. Chips' legacy outlived him.

E4 means enlisted rank 4, in the US Army this is either a Specialist or Corporal.  In the US Navy this is is Petty Officer Third Class.  A huge majority of the work done in both branches of service are done by E4 and E5 ranks (E5 being Sergent/Second Class Petty Officer, respectfully) and "tend to get things done, no matter how".  The joke is that the US Service branches have an E4 and E5 "Mafia" where they are all part of a family who sometimes "get things done" in a shady way.

“An altercation ensues, and the doctor ends up taking care of the dog.” That being their own doctor. You can probably imagine what “disciplinary action” a French Lieutenant would be subjected to for stealing their dog. Lol

Nic ask that you give him two days on new content as a courtesy.

E-4 = Enlisted Pay Grade Four
Army Coporal
Army (Technical) Specialist
Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class
Marine Corporal
Air Force Senior Airman
Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class
Space Force Specialist 4

The E-4s are the ones that actually get things done in the military (Don't ask how, you want to maintain plausible deniability when it isn't exactly within regulation).

E-4s are the highest rank you can achieve while maintaining zero accountability or supervisory responsibility. Generally speaking, if you need something done and you don’t care how illegal, immoral, or stupid the methods used to accomplish said goal? You go to an E-4, tell them what needs done, and then never ask how they made it happen. Because you don’t want to know.

Need batteries for your night vision goggles? Tell an E-4 you don’t care how they get them.

Need a new rotor for a Humvee? Need a replacement radio? Need MOPP gear? Just don’t ask questions and it will magically appear in 2-12 hours.

The flip side of this coin is that if you’re in their chain of command and you piss them off? They can make your entire life miserable without ever actually doing something that can be traces back to them.

E-4s are 20-25 year olds who are just old enough and just experienced enough to know how to get things done. They are also just young enough and irresponsible enough to not give a singular fuck if their methods are acceptable or even defensible.

12:23 E-4 is one of the pay-grade’s (Enlisted Pay Grade Four) you obtain in the military and are Junior Enlisted. They’re the people that get shit done, don’t ask how they got it done either. The enlisted pay-grade goes from E-1 to E-9. For the Army an E-4 is a Specialist or Corporal, for Marines they’re Corporals, for Air Force they’re Senior Airman, for Navy they’re Petty Officer Third Class (Coast Guard also uses the same rank and pay-grade), and for Space Force it’s Specialist 4. Anything with E in the pay-grade is enlisted, while O is for Officers, and W is for Warrant Officers. For example; if you’re an E-9 in the Army, you’re either a Sergeant Major or Command Sergeant Major. E-9 is your pay-grade and Sergeant Major or Command Sergeant Major is your rank. Another example is if you’re an O-2 you’re a First Lieutenant. O-2 is your pay-grade, First Lieutenant is your rank. Here’s a good place to check out for reference if you want to learn more about the different ranks/pay-grades:

“It’s not the wand it’s the wizard.” Is a crazy quote I will now be using

The E4 mafia is basically the mid level enlisted troops. They have enough power to get things done but not so much power to be punished severely if something happens. It’s the perfect middle ground for shenanigans and they take full advantage of it.

Chips is the Forrest Gump of dogs

This is a simplification but E4s are in the sweet spot of the military where they have no responsibility but also have the field experience to do stuff.

E5s and above deal with paperwork so unless somebody died, they tend to tolerate E4s as much as possible and just "doesn't see' what the E4s are doing to save themselves the headache of doing paperworks

Fat Electrician has a short video on E4 mafia

@13:23 Nic's voice breaking after realizing he's doing the "Hail!" always makes me chuckle

Taught about very much even in American schools, but my grandfather was a century dog handler in Vietnam as part of the military police in the army. Dogs are some of the greatest tools you could ever bring into battle and they truly helped my grandfather through it.

E-4 is a rank. Meaning enlisted rank 4. Just under a non-commissioned officer. All militaries have their own version.

In the 1917 movie, Blake tells Schofield a story about some other soldier that they know. This soldier's wife (or girlfriend) was a hair dresser and had sent the soldier some hair oil that smelled sweet. So the soldier put the oil in his hair and when he woke up there was a rat licking his hair, and the rat bit the top of his ear off. Blake said that the rats didn't bother anyone else, but they all loved the soldier with the hair oil.

i just watch the movie and it's very good and pretty accurate to the story

E4 is a Rank. it is the highest rank before you get to Non Commissioned Officer and Commissioned Officer ranks. Basically your officers give orders to the NCOs who then give orders to the soldiers and sailors, the E4s basically tell let the E1-E3s do all the work while they supervise.

12:35 E-4 is in reference to the rank of E-4 (Enlisted-Rank 4). The E-4 mafia is a totally non-serious network completely made up by the illuminati to convince you that magic is real and there are real magicians that do real magic to make the craziest shit happen, like you pass CGMP with flying colors. E-4 mafia just gets shit done no matter what, and nobody asks any questions.

these dogs in today's military have exceptional training, especially those assigned to Special Forces, they strap them underneath themselves and jump out of planes with them, even in HALO  jumps , ( High Altitude Low Opening ), in which case, because of the high altitude, they have to wear a specially designed breathing mask, just like their handler has to wear.
