Pappy Gunn retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer and a full Colonel from the US Army Air Corps.  His awards include; two Distinguished Flying Crosses, the Legion of Merit, the Silver Star, 9 Air Medals and 9 Purple Hearts in addition to numerous campain and service medals. He's in the Arkansas Aviation Hall of Fame and it looks like there's video of him in his plane from the National Museum of WW2. He unfortunately died in 1957 in a storm when his plane crashed with no survivors rebuilding his business in the Philippines.  @OldManReacts

Pappy  sweet talked them into giving him things with the love language of Colt

He got his family back. That's the  only reward he wanted. As a dad who hasn't been with my family in 6 months, this hit me hard.

"She's with the crabs now." Had me dying when I heard it lol

Thanks for keeping me sane while I stand by the stove for 45 minutes whisking Turkish delight.

Strategically Transferred Ownership to Local Engineers.

Wife:  starts to argue
Pappy:  "How's your appendectomy doin'?"
Wife:  "...you're right...I'm sorry...."
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Samuel Colt, the sweet "Equalizer!"

34:44- I thought this level of 'genius' was reserved for the Bureau of Ordinance?

43:27- Huh 'Pappy' really put that doctor in a bind. On the one hand, it's not recommended to do improvised surgeries with a patient. On the other hand, it would look even worse on the record to let his patient harm himself.

56:02- This is very fascinating. This man managed to achieve tank-plane before the Russians did.

1:00:29- It's a slight bummer that Paul Gunn wasn't able to personally rescue his family from Internment. At least his family was able to come out intact.

You should always have a screenshot of your open mouth stunned expression with Nic's video in the background for your thumbnails. That look is priceless and perfectly sums up reactions to the Fat Electrician's historicals...

To be fair, she DID have surgery without anesthesia in an Imperial Japanese internment camp. She wouldn't start a argument with him in the FIRST place, now...

Pappy 🫡

When I showed this to my dad, I said that I wonder what kind of lizard Sam was. Dad sent me a gif of a massive monitor lizard tearing up a convenience store. This seems likely.

18:28 Pretty sure these were land-based bombers, the carriers were still making their way back from Pearl.  Mac's still a moron, though.

56:00 Pappy Gunn out here NOT only prototyping the A-10 warthog, BUT ALSO prototyping the AC-130  Gunship.

I will say every time I watched this video whether it would be the first time, rewatches, or reaction, I always get a wave of depression when Richard bong is mentioned due to the end of his video on him and what I now know from reading extra info from commenters, all of those caused me to be fubar. Also if anyone else knows what the unsubscribe clips video is called where they talk about Richard bong and he basically had a mental break down on the way back to the states because he broke out of his cockpit syndrome due to him seeing a crashed plane and actually saw the pilots body and it hit him all at once that the 40 planes he shot down weren’t just machines but they were people.

Pappy Gunn: From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me.

56:01 The British beat him to the idea. A version of the Mosquito was armed with four .303 Browning machine guns and a 57mm auto-loading cannon for taking out U-Boats. It had a magazine of 24 shells, and fired at 30 rounds per minute.

It's unanimous.
MacArthur sucked, in WWII AND Korea!...

I have to recommend watching his video on Carlos "White Feather" Hathcock
