1,418 days still 0 nominees for the elden ring soundtracks....Just give the producers a raise

when you're actually fighting this boss the fourth phase music is just such an insane contrast with everything the dreglord is doing, but it works because it feels like the fight has moved out of your perspective entirely and all you're hearing is the inner song of a monster functioning at peak performance. there's not a second spared to imply your heroic fight against it, straghess is simply moving too fast for that, and you either keep up with its dance or you die.

With Heolstor he's like a very outwardly elegant character and as you fight him you're thinking about your journey up until this point, but Straghess is really just about the poetry of brutality and rage, and demands you stay entirely in the moment.

0:42 my face everytime I see the relics reward after a boss fight

This is how I see it.
First two phases reflect Dreglord Straghess' need for revenge.
Last two phases reflect his need for survival.
It's getting rid of the impurities, bias, and hatred, and stripping him down to instinct.
So peak...

Dreglord might just be one of the best bosses Fromsoft has produced. Four phases of pure fun.

I have been LITERALLY checking your channel every single day for the past month.

FINALLY!

I interpreted the progression of the song less as the dreglord becoming more "human" and more like a process of purification. The song starts completely chaotic and disorderly, but with each phase it strips away layers of instrumentation and vocals while the overall melody becomes more coherent and unified. The final phase is essentially representative of the core essense of the dreglord, which is why it's paradoxically the most elegant and coherent part of the track.

Rot slave knight gael is the only thing that was on my mind when i fought this boss

The Dreglord is actually a 5 phase battle, beginning as a humanoid collection of bodies in the first two phases, before being killed and resurrected into a more bestial form driven only be pure impulse for the next two phases, all before one final "finish it" phase where he sets up an unlimited rot rain to force the battle to a photo finish.

"This obsessive mound of flesh, unlike any form of life ever to exist, has no obvious weakness."
looks inside
It's weak to fire and holy damage :/

Man, after this dlc I just want more from Ichizaki and his team. They have demonstrated to have talent and passion. I hope Michael Zaki gives them the green light and the resources for an original IP.

for me it is one of those themes that you have to here it with the actual fight

Little do you know... Phase 3-4 is "Pure Impulse", no thoughts, no nothing... just instinct. A desperate bid of fighting both the night and the nightfarers (If he didn't already fall to it).

From korea, im always like ur Elden R & Nightreign videos!
Your commentary is real interesting😊
Thanks for ur video!

you should do the weapon bequeathed Harmonia OST. Its just as good as Dreglord in my opinion

I think the best way to describe Dreglord Straghess would probably be that he is a directed abomination. A complete monster of unhinged strength and madness, yet one paradoxically focused and controlled into a singular purpose.

You could say the gradual transition from phases 1 to 4 reprints him taming his own savagery towards a sofisticated path. A beast in every sense, yet channelled through human mind.

It's actually a four-phase bossfight! That first segment was the full loop of the first phase of the fight, which is also a pretty short phase.

The composer didn't just compose a track for the boss, he very meticulously timed a lot of major events in the song to the boss's attacks. That very first deep piano note plays the exact moment the boss's weapon shoots into his hand. The second phase's female vocals kick in right as the boss recovers from a global blood storm attack, as if the music itself was in shock. The buildup for the third phase is timed to end right as the boss's phase-up animation is over. The beginning of the fourth phase is flawlessly synced to the final phase transition attack. FromSoft usually makes fantastic boss fights, but this fight as a whole is just an absolute work of art in every capacity.

If you don't end up playing the game, I highly recommend watching the a video of the fight. It's phenomenal.

Sadly this is the wrong version, not the official composition, which has missing parts and is low quality

This is so far the only version I’ve found that has the official mix aswell as high quality:
