This week’s giant pumpkin update is all about explosive growth and mid‑season adjustments. All three of my giant pumpkins are still gaining around 40 pounds per day, which is incredible to see but also means I’ve had to pull them back and start managing vine growth more carefully. In this video, I walk through each plant from multiple angles, including elevated ladder shots, to show the full layout of the patch and how each pumpkin is developing. I talk about the difference between pumpkin growth and plant growth at this stage, why I’m slowly terminating extra vines, and how pulling back the pumpkins (including Mabel, who needed it twice) helps prevent stress on the main vine as they continue to expand.
I also cover early powdery mildew, injuries on the 1986 Turner pumpkin, and what I’m doing to help them heal. Toward the end, I share updates on the giant tomato and giant watermelon, including a new watermelon weight, and then check in on our daughters’ giant pumpkins. One of them even wrote her pumpkin’s name in the sand, which I didn’t notice until editing. Lots of growth, lots of problem solving, and lots of excitement as we head toward weigh‑off season with pumpkins.
