This week’s giant pumpkin update takes a dramatic turn as I discover a stem split on my 1,000 pound pumpkin and walk through my plan to manage it. I start with the August 13 footage where I found the stem split, explaining why I decided to slice the stem open to encourage the split to travel toward the vine instead of up into the pumpkin. The rest of the update, filmed on August 16, covers full patch progress on all three giant pumpkins with 45 DAP (Days After Pollination) weight estimates, blossom end width views, and proposed main vine adjustments on the 1931 Turner and 2551 Ford plants. I also share an update on the stem split to show how it’s healing and what I’m doing next to protect the pumpkin as it continues to grow. Toward the end, I give updates on my giant tomato and giant watermelon, including a new watermelon weight and wrap up with a look at our daughters’ giant pumpkins. If you’re following along with the 2026 season, dealing with your own stem split, or just love giant pumpkin growing, this full patch walkthrough has all the latest progress, challenges, and solutions.
