Almost forgot to watch this today

Her “dying” on stage while the crowd cheered and screams is so ironic. It’s perfect setting for the meaning of this song

Its 2026 and I still get goosebumps watching this performance

I think this performance is more culturally significant than the entire Renaissance period in world history

The drama. The theatricality. The art. The performance. The blood. The expressions. The effects. The symbolism. Lady Gaga, you will always be famous

It’s a shame that the video keeps getting deleted. It’d be over a 100M views by now

This performance completely changed the trajectory of her career. The self harmony, the passion, the piano playing, the blood, the timed mic drop at the end… this is the birth of an Icon.

The way you can hear the crowd gasp when she starts bleeding is amazing

wow, i can’t believe gaga invited the vma’s to her concert! she’s so generous

The crowd gasps is normal, but then the crowd becomes the song. She's (metaphorically) dying on stage and everyone's clapping and cheering. Really deep...

i have never ran to screen record something so fast, YOU'LL NEVER TAKE IT AWAY FROM ME AGAIN

Can we take a moment to appreciate that when she throws the mic at 4:04 it lands PERFECTLY on beat for the end of the song??? She managed to time that drop at the exact moment, all the while out of breath, suspended by one arm, serving face AND with fake blood in her eyes. Plus I noticed at 4:00 she also adjusted the blood smear on her face so it looks like tears while her back is to the audience. The professionalism and attention to detail is insane, she’s superhuman!!

You can even hear the gasps in the crowd when the blood starts gushing out. What a performance

The way they applaud her “dead” body being hung up there is so eerie

2009 was not ready for her

For the newbies, I do want to point out that they cut out the intro. It came back from commercial break with Pete Wentz and another presenter talking, which was interrupted by a loud crash, glass shattering and screaming- the chandelier malfunctioning and falling ontop of the pop starlet before the curtains even rose.

Think about that imagery for a sec

Absolutely insane the disability rep in 2009. Lady Gaga is not really someone that we think about a lot in terms of disability, but her career has been really hard on her and yet she’s gone under appreciated for fighting through that!
