The First Lady to put a theatrical context to the music video format that reflects in her performance art

Everyone was expecting for her to perform her known hits at the time like "Borderline" & "holiday" and she came out with this debut of Like a Virgin and she was told her career was over after it and the rest was history. queen of pop for a reason!!

THE MOST DARING WOMAN OF ALL TIME. SHE DIDN'T OPEN THE DOOR SHE KNOCKED IT DOWN AND MADE IT BIGGER🎉🎉🎉

This is the moment Madonna would become a superstar!

HERstory was made that day! If there's any kind of justice in this world this performance should win the award this year. It literally made M+TV!

most iconic performance of all time, at very first VMAs - set the bar for iconic performances

It’s unbelievable what this woman did for Mtv and for pop music and pop bitches.
This is the first ceremony ever, she dared everyone singing a still unreleased song, she was bold and sexy, this performance is 100% Madonna, 100% MTV, 100% pop culture and a F-ing milestone of world music.
She deserves to win the Best Performance award, she deserve it also because MTV did not nominated the REAL best performance EVER: Vogue. Shame on you MTV, now let’s give Madonna what she deserves

No dancers. No special effects. No moving props or elaborate lighting.  Just a singer singing a song. Yet sent shockwaves across the industry and beyond, changing the way artists and audiences viewed stage performances, fashion, etc. - a cultural reset in the truest sense of the word. Just MADONNA.

She Made MTV a thing

The ending is everything. The world and the audience had no idea they had just witnessed the birth of the biggest pop star that ever was.

BEST PERFORMANCE OF MTV EVER

This is the Vmas most iconic performance ever.

ALL of Madonna's VMA performances are Iconic

Its been 40 years this week since this legendary performance. MTV did nothing to honor Like A Virgin at VMAs, they didn’t even mention it with one word. Madonna literally made you MTV, her videos supported your new station on market back than. Madonna also defended videos as new way of artistic expression. MTV you own her a LOT, shame on you for not celebrating this legendary moment! Give Madonna her flowers!
