Roach walked behind the walls so Bruno Madrigal could run.

"Ruby has a pro-black friend named Marcellus Wallace" 😂😂😂 that caught me WAY off guard. 😏

I love that more and more people are talking about this movie and its themes. Wes was on time AND ahead of his time with this one.

DID ANYONE ELSE SEE HIM CALL THE LITTLE GIRL MARIAH CAREY 😭😭😭

I love how Fool uses fire to help him instead of walking through it to become a man. In a way, he still has some innocence while MANNING UP and helping his community.

I saw a review that likened it to a fairy tale which was a great catch, and I think it gives the movie staying power and gives something to the viewers who might not get the references to the political situation at the time.

It's a story about a poor boy(Fool)  who is driven to join bandits (Leroy and Spencer) to find a treasure (Literally gold coins and also cash) in a fortified castle (The house)  guarded by a vicious beast at their command (Prince), gets help from a strange character (Roach), escapes and comes back later to save a captured princess (Alice) and tortured souls in a dungeon (The boys) and for his goodness, cleverness and bravery gets rewarded with riches, and everyone lives happily ever after.

I love this movie, I hope more people watch it and I REALLY hope the remake doesn't fuck it up.

Between Fool and Kevin from "Home alone",kids were heroic in some crazy situations..The acting, the writing, the directors made it all feel authentic

Wesley Malcolm Jamal Craven.

Sir. 😂😂😂

25/10

I think this film scared me so much as a kid because 1.) It's totally plausible/ there is no supernatural ish going on. 2.) His regular life is super bleak as well.

I'm gonna ramble for a bit to boost for the algorithm (long comments means more engagement). So the house Dexter/Fool ends up in is one big metaphor for the United States under Ronald Reagan. It's common knowledge among fans that Mommy and Daddy are stand-in for Reagan and his wife. Their desire for a "good clean" family leads them to kidnap and mutilate multiple kids and the pedestal white America puts white women on becomes a cage for Alice who has to behave properly or risk being abused. Dexter is in a lot of danger when he tries walking the "streets"(hallways) of the house but he's not much safer inside the dirty "walls" (inner city) since Daddy hunts him and Roach down like vermin. The fact that Mommy and Daddy are hoarding wealth in the basement as landlords while their tenants suffer is still topical as hell

The movie is also a bizarro Twin Peaks where Big Ed and Nadine stayed together and this is what happened.

Wes Craven is so real for directing this and Vampire in Brooklyn

I started snapping like i was at a poetry reading at the begining. Thank god its a cult classic  bc otherwise my local tv channel wouldn't have been able to buy the rights to show it and i wouldnt have been able to see it as a preteen changing the trajectory of my life forever

Quickly becoming one of my favorites youtubers

Your voice is soothing beyond reason and your reason is beyond soothing. You have such great takes, funny but in no way foolish.

roach was so real for that

This movie educated me about gentrification. Robbing money from dirt poor tenants.

The young kid who played Fool looked just like my favorite little cousin, who was also street wise. Cool movie 🍿

I literally watched this movie yesterday because of your, "final boys trope video". I'm sooo ready for this onee

I remember watching this movie as a kid, having a crush on Fool. I've been a huge fan of The People Under The Stairs since the early 90s. Thank you for bringing it up. It didn't dawn on me that Fool would become one of the first black leads to become the Final Boy in a horror story.
