The little girl that played Christina as a child was acting her ass off. That bathroom scene when she says “Jesus Christ!” after Joan goes lunatic felt like a 40-year old at the end of their rope saying the line, instead of a child.

The baby delivered that “Jesus Christ” from deep in her soul 😭

I wonder if there will be a new generation of "Mommie Dearest" type films when the children of mommy bloggers grow up.

I have a coworker named Barbara. My favorite thing to mess with her is saying “BARBARA PLEASEEE, PLEASE BARBARA” when she asks me literally for anything -Mind you, she has never seen this film and has no idea what I’m referring too 😂

what gets me about that whole birthday present opening scene where joan makes her choose which toy she likes best is the fact she has her open the presents thinking they're for her just to have the rug pulled out from under her and told she can only keep one. imagine having your own mother as your fuckin opp from day one, just feeding off your misery all the damn time. what's that tumblr post like "Having an abusive parent is kinda funny in retrospect like mommy why do you have beef with me im 4 i love you"

damn did this movie hit so close to home, having narc parents is a trip

TINA!!!!! BRING ME THE AXE!

It’s interesting how this film’s reputation fluctuated throughout the years: From “Desecration of a Hollywood icon” to “A So Bad it’s Good romp” to “Flawed but disturbingly accurate depiction of abuse”

When christina says Jesus Christ you could feel her stress that little girl played the mess out of that role she kept up with Faye Dunaway for sure

Why must EVERYTHING be a CONTEST?!?!

Umm…because you’re constantly competing with this little girl, Joan 😂

"Because....I'm NOT one of your FANS!!!!!" is my favorite moment. I liked horror movies when I was a kid, and this was the scariest.

baby, this Joan Crawford brow is sending me into 2028.

as a homie with mommy issues who's mom's favorite movie was this film. i feel very seen lmao

The real Joan grew up in an environment where her mother worked in a laundromat where wire hangers were used to hang the dry clothes. The wire hanger always reminded her of that time and she absolutely hated it

That lady sent her to boarding school bc she thought the Lil girl was flirting with her man☹️

spending three hours for brows that were THAT inconsistent i’m DEAD

Mommy Dearest is basically a demented sketch show. Nothing ever “sits” with the audience. We go from the pool scene to the mirror scene to the wire hanger scene with zero breaks. We never see the aftermath of any of these events, we just get shuffled along to the next horrific event. It makes Joan look like a rejected SNL character with Christina being her foil. Like a demented AbFab parody that forgot to hire comedic actors

She said go get strapped in plz save yourself.....that's a good sibling lol

No Wireeee Hangerrrrssss !!!

Shoutout to all my "no contact" gang. I don't know about y'all, but my only regret was not going no contact sooner.

This reminds me more of Whats Love Got to Do With It, the Tina Turner biopic. There are so many elements of the abuse and SA depicted that is parodied and memed that undermine the seriousness and struggle Tina survived to the point Tina retreated because of the sensationalism of her pain -- when she was pressured to release the memoir and movie to retain control of her pain.
