$1900 in the US makes the R6 Mark II worth more, to be fair

@funtaril 3 weeks ago

There's no such thing as bad product, only a bad price. And here it really shows.

Add $100 - and get R6 II with fully mechanical shutter, normal-capacity battery, second card slot, better EVF and additional dial (and it won't look like cheap Sony/Fuji hybrid).
Save $300 - and get Nikon Z5 II with similar to R6 II feature set and access to 3rd-party lenses.
As you mentioned, original $1400 R8 and $2000 a7 IV are in the mix too.
So it's a weird proposition - adding IBIS and joystick doesn't justify that big of a price increase IMHO.

Thank you for preview!

I’m a simple man. I see Gordon upload - I click.

The addition of IBIS, while nice, will drain that tiny battery much more quickly than the original R8. Need to see some comprehensive testing done with a production model.

@Skux720 3 weeks ago (edited)

I'm not sure why this camera exists. All they did was add IBIS, which makes it heavier and eats the already tiny battery. At that point you might as well get the R6II.

Ah... Canon... You dumped your Luigi Colani design language you've mastered since the 1986 T90 for no good reason. Congratulations, your new camera looks like a Sony Alpha camera with a Canon logo.

Thank you, Gordon, for not shying away from the competition at this price point, even from Canon’s own lineup. Most other reviewers are acting like the R6 II doesn’t exist at nearly the same price new, and for far less money for mint condition used copies.

@johnjones8330 3 weeks ago

I’m happier than ever with the R6iii after this.

$1900 in US?
Tiny battery and single sd card slot?
Canon R6 II and Nikon Z5 II are far better alternatives.

I love the new Canon-Sony Collab... I mean... I love the new R8 MarkII 😄

Gordon always deserves an upvote!

I think I prefer the old soap-bar styling. If they were to go retro, I'd prefer a shutter dial and ISO dial with front and rear dials like the X-T5.

@davidfrisken1617 3 weeks ago

Thanks Canon. You have made my Panasonic S5ii decision easy.

A modern (but simple!) canonet style would be lovely!

@lionheart4424 3 weeks ago

Great job on noting that the competition offers similar specs for the same money or even less.

Wouldn't expect less from you Gordon!

For me this model is not great value for its price, wish it had open gate and at least an additional slot for microSD cards.

I also much prefer the curved edges, they the reason I love Canon ergonomics. Feels nicer in the hands.
