I think you missed the mark a bit around 2:00. Most people on TikTok have zero desire to use anything but full automatic. They aren’t looking to use manual settings, their interest in editing goes as far as the controls Instagram or the photos app on their phone gives them. They don’t know or care about RAW files, the exposure triangle, or hell even know what a shutter speed is. They’re looking for something small, with a lot of zoom and easy to use. Low quality is a bonus because they view it nostalgically as what their childhood looked like.

My guess is that a lot of people just want a vibe camera that takes photos and video without much effort, and the Canon probably falls into that category for a lot of people, but with a massive zoom for concerts and other stuff?

yet another reason to completely ignore tik tok.

I see anything trending on TikTok as the bright colours of poisonous species.
No matter what the subject discussed is, it is surely the worst idea of the bunch.

honestly the new OM System Pen should be at the top of the tier list by itself. But not sure how viral it is.

that 3d printing rabbit hole at 08:55 😂 i can totally see myself printing one camera accessory on my Bambu and then suddenly searching makerworld for cases, grips and organisers for everything

@coleson-er 2 weeks ago

ok the filter cases sold me. anyone here actually printing camera stuff, is the bambu the one to get or is that just the one everyone sees on youtube. no idea where to start

Gen Z photo nerd here, the Powershot 740HS was actually my first camera, i bought it during the pandemic for a festival 😂. Part of the appeal when other cameras had bigger zoom was that the Silver and brown grip looked snazzy.

The PowerShot G1X Mk III had an APSC sensor and zoom lens. It was great for photography (arguably still the best out of the PowerShot G series) but somehow still quite expensive used nowadays.

Just sold a Canon S95 for £240 which I purchased for £35 in 2022, the hype is real

Ironically, the "creator cameras" without all the necessary features (not wide enough, no IBIS etc) look to be pretty good entry-mid level photography cameras. A lot of the specs are there, just not for run-and-gun vlogging content creation style stuff.

All interchangeable cameras and lens are banned in most concert, so I always seeking the alternative of superzoom pocket camera and smartphones

Super zooms are good for exactly tiktokers. They aren't going into photography as a hobby like you, but use it to see up close from far away for when their phone doesn't cut it

I picked up the Sony ZV-1 (Mark I not II), and I've enjoyed it as a travel point and shoot for photo. It was $500, and while no EVF, the RAWs are suitable enough and it's truly pocketable. Ive gotten some very pleasant shots. Maybe not the best for crazy prints, but for social media and even computer wallpapers, perfectly great.

I have zero desire to go on tiktok (or any social media these days), so it surprised me how interesting this video was, you acting as a safari guide to narrate the trends and patterns. I think you have a talent for traversing between spheres and social scenes and translating between the two, which is a valuable skill.

My favourite lens for concerts is the Olympus OM 100mm f/2. Fast enough for low light, 150mm on APS-C, and compact. The way I see it, If you need longer than that at a concert, you aren't at the concert.

The Sony ZV-1 original is way better than the mkii and cheaper. I use mine with a glimmer glass filter and a little flash accessory and it’s an amazing EDC for photo and video. Hate the mkii. Great content as always Emily!

Some of these cameras are popular because these TikTok “photographers” aren’t interested in photography as an art but as a fad, they don’t need manual controls or RAW because they have no interest in anything other than looking like they understand photography because they own a camera.
