Commander deck with all these cards?

Thanks for the new buy list.

Ah yes. Protein Hulk. Not to be confused with Protean Hulk.

90% of commander players really just want to play solitaire while other people watch

I remember being in a commander game that was six teams of two. I cast Expropriate with mana from Boseju and I knew the only thing that could stop it was my friend's Insidious Will. She responded with Insidious Will, chose to copy Expropriate instead and three teams immediately quit.

Granted I haven't played competitive MTG since 1999 well before the advent of so called mana curve decks but this list sounds like someone in this era who hated control, combo and resource denial decks which were all the rage back in my day. Looks like i apparently got out when the getting out was good. I'll always remember the first tournament I won with a hymn to taurach, juzann djinn,  abyssal spectre, the rack deck.

Flash was banned in 2020 in Commander but Hulk was banned from 2008 to 2017 so that's also something worth noting

People hate losing agency... Yes g'damn. I would love to play magic all day, but the online meta and background one-sided mirror matchmaking making it impossible to play against many different decks. I always play against 50% upwards control decks. Hate it with my guts.

I’m addicted to these videos. They’re like the artisanal, hand-crafted version of what AI slop listicle videos try to be

5:43 is glorious. I did not know that one even existed LOL
11:26 many moons ago when I was taught MTG, this was among the cards hand shuffled. It was real. Not a proxy. I had no idea how much power my friends were entrusting me at the time. But upon seeing the cradles I knew those were good.
12:01 you did not mention the [Maralen of the Mornsong] combo.

13:55 But Serum, don't you know that *my grandfather's deck has no pathetic cards!*?

7:25  just a quick aside on mindslaver... it had a loop partner in it's own block, Bringer of the White Dawn in Fifth Dawn made it an instant concede

The "sit and watch me play alone for 15 minutes" cards are something I'll never understand

I loved my old red/green deck back in the day that could pull an Insurrection in turn 4. Did real well in several tournaments with it.

"One ring to rule them all..."

I think this misses the most hated part of Name Sticker Goblin, which is that even players who weren’t playing it were incentivized to bring sticker sheets to any format in which it was legal.

If you showed up to a table without a sticker sheets, you effectively told your opponent you weren’t playing red creatures. It was also impossible to implement authentically in MTGO, leading to it getting an awkward errata for that platform only.

We can credit the blanket banning of stickers and attractions to this one card and the parasitic play patterns it encouraged.

Cool video, would love to see one that goes more into more detail on each card as to its history or a further explanation of what makes it disliked

Nothing feels better than owning a squall and a strip mine. Especially if you own a roaming throne.

Thank you for this comprehensive list. I cackled through most of your descriptions. Looks like I need to find three more of these treasures to my decks. Though obscure, I would also recommend Word of Command, Nevinarryl's Disk, and Kismet to the mix.

I haven’t played MTG since ice age when I was a kid, and it is interesting to see that all of the ‘bad’ cards are more recent. I guess they cared more about balance and such back in my day. 🤷🏼‍♂️
