23:15 Three things to do before you trade in
In January 2017, South African Ford Kuga owners were turned away at the trade-in desk. In 2026, the list of cars the trade doesn't want back is longer. We count down 13 cars by how hard the door shuts: from the ones dealers take while you absorb a huge loss, to discontinued models and brands with no new cars, to Takata stop-drive notices and a battery-fire recall where the National Consumer Commission told owners to park away from buildings and charge outdoors.
Every price is a real asking price on AutoTrader or Cars.co.za on 30 September 2026. We also tell you what we did not find, and what to do before you trade in: get a settlement letter, check your VIN for open recalls, and get several offers at once.
Which of these is in your driveway, and what were you offered for it? Tell us in the comments, and which town you're in.
⚠️ Asking prices are not sale prices or trade-in offers, and some models have only a handful of listings. Recall status changes: always check your own car's VIN.
