The failed pottery project I want to retry the most is my duck amigurumi project. The first time I made it, my technique was all wrong, and the colors were lifeless. Also, it broke 😐 In this video, watch me redo this project and perhaps it will work out this time!

Fiber artist here. When I make a mistake that needs to be repaired AND there is no way to repair it seamlessly, I lean into the break. I try to make the abnormality fit in. Sometimes it’s dramatic, sometimes it’s subtle but it ends up being something I never expected. Give it a try, it’s so fun!

You absolutely need to try a no-sew pattern with this technique. Smaller limbs that are already attached and therefore have less chance of breakage. Being able to use potentially one balloon to fill out the shape. I think it would solve a lot of your problems.

This was the perfect “last video” for your studio. I love your creative thinking and appreciate how you talk through your problem-solving strategies. I think the viewers are probably shouting suggestions (i.e. “Put that on a kiln shelf before you glue it!”) as you go (like you can hear us 😂). Super fun to watch; I’m inspired to give this a try myself!

This is awesome. If you ever do add eyes, the eyes need to be more on the side of the duck head to be cute and not creepy. (Life-like placement).
I love crochet. I'll be trying this in my kiln whenever I fire it for the first time. LOL

My next thought is that wool might be stinkier but better, cotton yarn tends to be very dense and might have a hard time taking in enough clay, but wool fiber might be fluffier and take in a lot more clay and have more structure? It would smell like burning animal hair instead of burning paper though...

If you left the neck of the balloon sticking out. You could try popping the balloon and pulling it out without opening up the duck.

If we are living and learning for a future duck, I would also attach the feet a bit higher "up" the body (in terms of towards the head) rather than to the end of the tail. Maybe just between the bigger Ballon and the beginning in the tail
