When I first heard those sound effects, I thought "what?!?!?!?", then I thought "what a nice touch and addition to the video. Quite creative. Fun". Never stop doing what you like and what's fun just because somebody doesn't like it! :)

I think you nailed the balance of sound effects this video. Adding a few in the right spots adds a bit of fun and whimsy without being too much! Great video.

As an amateur watchmaker, I appreciate all the beginner mistakes you show. It’s reassuring that these mistakes are common to all beginners.

I just wanted to say that I’m an amateur watchmaker too. I’ve taken Mark’s courses and watched all of Marshall’s videos, and it’s genuinely refreshing to finally see someone showing the real problems we run into every day when trying to repair old vintage watches.

Not just the usual “disassemble, clean, lubricate, reassemble — and everything works perfectly” kind of video, but the actual difficulties: worn parts, unexpected problems, mistakes, troubleshooting, and all the little challenges that are part of working on old movements.

Thank you for being so honest and transparent. Seeing that you sometimes face the same difficulties and make the same kinds of mistakes that I do is actually incredibly encouraging. You’ve become a real inspiration for me to keep learning and improving in this fantastic hobby.

Don’t listen to people criticizing your sound effects. One thing I’ve noticed about YouTubers is that if you chase what everyone wants you lose who you are. Be you, put the sound effects in how you want and people will adjust!!!

I can't tell you how impressed I am at the way you tackled that inner coil adjustment.

I'm like you, a beginner and I've invested so much time in learning how to tackle coil spacing deviations but out of flat adjustments have proven to be another level of technical difficulty.

Fantastic work and don't bend to those who don't like your style of production. They have options to watch something else.

Your husband’s comments about expectations are apt. From a mechanical standpoint, it’s not the number of years on the calendar, it’s the number of years w/o proper servicing. For a number of the watches you’ve serviced, those movements were doing hard labor for a long time. Especially for movements without 15+ jewels, there is now metal missing that you’re simply never going to be able to get back. Regardless of the project, having realistic expectations / metrics for success is both practical and emotionally healthy.

As an amateur of similar(?) skill, I’ve serviced and repaired quite a few watches, of numerous makes, over time. For reasons I can’t fully explain, I have a special fondness for Soviet models. I had to adjust my own expectations when working on them. Originally, I was hoping that with enough effort, I could get Omega-level amplitudes and beat errors. I used to think that I was at fault when I wasn’t getting those numbers. I had to step back a bit to realize that, regardless of the skills of the watchmaker, those old movements were simply never going to deliver that kind of performance.
